Christmas and New Year Arrangements..!!!

Just discovered our Mail centre is starting back on the nightshift on 27th december and the 3rd of january after christmas and new year

Any other mail centres know when the nightshift is starting back at the festive period..?

We have been asking our managers for weeks, but all we get is 'We're still negotiating with the Union'.

We feel entitled to 2 nights off for Christmas which would mean returning for the nightshift on Wednesday 28th December, and 1 night off at New Year which would mean returning for the nightshift on Tuesday 3rd January.

However if previous years are anything to go by, we will be required to attend on Tuesday 27th December and Monday 2nd January as we are told the following days are normal delivery days. In order to make attendance compulsory, the shift start time will be midnight rather than 10pm, but we will get paid for 2 full 8 hour shifts and get 2 days added to our leave entitlement.

I can guarantee you this - the night crew in our MC won't make any time getting away early, as we'll be making sure the office is nice and tidy for the other shifts...

I think we made 5 mins last Xmas. Whilst the Afternoon/evening shift was LONG gone, 3 hours before their finish time.

Night shift in our Mail Centre is back at 10pm on Tuesday 27th.

The Xmas National Agreement state's that night shift resume's on 27th Dec and 2nd Jan, remember though in a normal week the Sunday night staff are due the first attendance so should resume the night shift on these days, the rest would follow the next night. The Agreement also says that if there is a shortfall on these nights that volenteers should be sought as well as the use of casuals. Don't be conned we were last year and trying it on again this year, though now we have a copy of the agreement are going to fight it

Remember only inwards and deferred mails. Find out what time arrivals are due in and if they are arriving during the morning/afternoon of the 27th get overtimers in!

We have been told volunteers for the 27th starting at 10pm, with enhanced pay until midnight. plus a day in lieu. They have enough volunteers and all of those staff can pick a night of when they want it and it will be honoured. even if all leave slots for that night are filled

Apparantly the 26 volunteers have enabled the rest of us to have the 27th of so they will be 'looked after'

The 2nd of Jan only half the required volunteers, so all night staff are in at 10pm, with enhanced pay and a day in lieu. However all the original volunteers will have to pick the extra night where there is a vacant spot and it will not be guaranteed either. Unlike the 27th!! That smacks of discrimination to me to the original volunteers for the 2nd Jan
