Not in my office. We have 30 rurals and three are part time. The part-timers come in two hours earlier, claim that as overtime towards their 40 hours, do no IPS and are prepped and tied up before us full timers have cleared our benches of mail.DGP1 wrote:Rurals are longer than towns, in my office the rurals only prep and deliver (and they are all FT duties) but the PT duties are all town deliveries and a re much shorter.celerycelery wrote:I've never understood this full time/part time walks. Surely if all walks are equal then anyone can apply for any duty it's just the ips times that are altered for either a full timer or part timer. If such things exist as a full time and part time walk then it's no use having seniority for any re pick as a full timer couldn't pick a part timers walk and vice versa. Who decides which is a full time or part time walk anyway?

Re: Part Timer on Full Time Duty Permanently?
I *think* if memory serves, they were just advertised by duty number, but that duty is a 40 hour round because it is rural and our office only has full time rural rounds.pcb wrote:Does the notice say part time to full time on a temporary basis or on a permanent long term basis? If the advert does not state either then what have previous adverts led to? I.e. Contracts on a permanent basis. If so you could use this as custom and practice because RM have not informed staff of the change in recruiting to full time. Your rep should be able to help if not ask your Branch Secretary who will investigate.
It didn't state anything about temporary or permanent duration either. My rep was with my manager when the job was offered to me, and I have a copy of the notice advertising the successful candidates. Unfortunately, said manager has history of being a liar, so I'm not confident this can be resolved.
Many thanks for your helpful advice.

Re: Part Timer on Full Time Duty Permanently?
Manager said hours would be made up permanently
He then said when he sends the Eca? Request to sheffield he hopes that there will be no refusal there end to put said employees hours from 30 to 40.
He said if they do kick off about it it will be a temporary full time position

It's a ECR which has to be signed off by the regional director before going to Sheffield. so don't hold your breath.

Re: Part Timer on Full Time Duty Permanently?
Bernard,
You can resolve this situation yourself.
The problem is that you are doing a full time job but you are only being paid part time hours and are required to claim overtime for the extra hours you have to work. You have been given a verbal assurance that you would be made up to full time if you signed for this duty. This has not happened.
1. If the assurance was given during a meeting where others were present, type up notes of that meeting and get as many witnesses as possible to sign these notes.
2. Email your line manager and politely request that you be made up to full time. Ask for a written answer within 5 working days. Treat this as stage 1 of your grievance (informal stage).
3. If you have no joy, raise the issue with your second line manager using the stage 2 form of the grievance procedure (formal stage). Produce your witnessed notes as supporting evidence.
Keep your relationship with your line manager sweet by reassuring them throughout this process that you understand that the decision has been taken from higher up and you don't blame your line manager.

Re: Part Timer on Full Time Duty Permanently?
Very useful information, thanks. The announcement advertising these jobs was initially brought up in work-time-learning, so it's not as if he was trying to keep things quiet! Said manager then personally, along with my union rep, offered me the role, so again, there is another witness for the direct offer.MinisterofCucumber wrote:Bernard,

I might give it a few weeks though, as, to be honest, with the amount of work we are getting at the moment, and with more to come, the last thing I want is to get involved in more aggravation.

Toenail...... All i'm saying is, the original poster made a pretty lucid point and it isn't really helpful to make unnecessary and immature comments.
IMHO - If, as you say, all the managers you've encountered have been as you describe, it may be worth taking a look in the mirror. (after all,, the common denominator is.... you)
