Re: Moya sets out our strategy
If Royal Mail want to cut cost do this way
1. More Automatic sorting ie flat, parcels - reduce manpower on sorting.
2. Reduce management especially above linemanger.
3. Scrap van sharing, and absorbing
4. Scrap Doors to Doors business as it is waste of resources and time.
5, Get all sorting done for 5.30 to send out for delivery as it will reduce time wasting and traffic.

If they quote that bloody historic pension deficit again i'll punch the screen, isn't it if all the people in the pot claimed at the same time there would be a deficit,
but the actual assets are 30billion?? (pensions not my strong point)and thats what the government are after, that rather nice lump of asset!
And what OFCOM are stating is that the only way they can can regulate properly is when we are all compliant, being bullied and harrassed to maintain rediculous
performance targets,lining up for privatisation!!

Always be one step ahead, play their game but be wiser. Revenge is sweet.

Well these changes haven't reached the sticks here yetdvbuk55 wrote:The Titanic sank off the canadian coast, I wonder if there's some premonition there ft. You have to wonder how much more change there can be in deliveries and exactly when the rest of the organisation is going to join us in the 21st Century.fishtank wrote:This company is heading for the rocks and the Captain has just cranked the speed up.
We're still on a 40hr week, still have 'job and knock', postman are still using their own cars, we still finish early on a Saturday(we don't touch mailsort),cycle deliveries are still ........ cycle deliveries. Lapsing is only done on a Tuesday, if we've got time,
The only changes we've had are national ones. We now start 45 mins later, have unlimited D2D's in return for the delivery supplement and we did get a bonus for agreeing the 2010 rubbish (which our branch recommended as a no vote)
There's been talk of change coming for a long time, the latest info we've been given is April-May next year

Van Sharing - fuel cost, maintenance, insurance, hire and bad for environment and parking problems in certain location.
Absorbing - Paying out overtimes, injuries, wasted resources ie driving to drop posties to do starburst, fuel cost and it will injuries more postie with extra wear and tears.

I wish that was trueDarren Bent wrote:Scrap Doors to Doors business as it is waste of resources and time.
Sadly dispite being a pain that no one really wants it does make the business a healthy profit and is a growth market. Well that is untill folks get so sick of all the rubbish through their doors they ban it on a recycle issue.
Its the DSA agreement which is killing our once loved jobs.

Lets sort out the very basics here:-
Payout College Shares (average £1700 pro rata) to employees with shares, just like everyone who has already been paid out.
Then and only then will the work force be behind these changes and support RM with their stupid ideas!!!!!!!
No shares payment, then the employees won't co-operate with RM in any changes.

Darren , I do believe that more line managers should be cut.
But how you think Royal Mail can save money by scraping park and loop is beyond me. I accept they have got the science wrong in planning park and loop revisons but do you really think that Royal Mail are going to scrap all the money they invested in CDVs for park and loop. So what happens if they scrap park and loop do we allow everyone to go back to cars on delivery and chase time again ?
Now they already invested in automation flat sorting machines , ILSMs and IMPs and CSS machines.
Now your point about getting people out on the street early ie 5;30 simply is now impossible unless Royal Mail stop all automation and then say to posters over 150 miles away that you cannot have your mail the next day even if you post 1st Class. You see we no longer breakdown in a mail centre a complete outward breakdown meaning that work increases on the inward. This means that distant mail`s do not clear an inward mail centre till 05;40 in the morning and that then means it has to go through the CSS machines.
It would breach Royal Mail`s lience to do what you have asked and even if it could be done if all you had was to do prep from and delivery from 05;30 there would not be many full time jobs.

RM could pay me whatever and I still would not support changes that have not been thought through properly and in some cases forced in. Don't get me wrong I'm not against change and I realise more vans are needed for the increase in packet work etc but it needs to be done properly, then I'll support it.

So what happens if we continue implementing park&loop and those revisions continue to fail and continue to cost the business a fortune?dingo wrote: So what happens if they scrap park and loop do we allow everyone to go back to cars on delivery and chase time again ?
Park&Loop is a flawed model...it assumes everything and everyone is equal...they aren't.
No two people are equal,no two bags of mail are equal,no two days are equal.
It's an expensive flop and it doesn't matter what the original outlay was at some point you have to stop throwing good money after bad.
As for chasing time managers and members have already shown an unwillingness to comply with the mandatory use of delivery equipment, how long before they go back to their cars and bags anyway if indeed a lot of them haven't already?
At the moment we are in danger of ending up with the worst of both options.
No limit on delivery spans and weight on the shoulder.
An agreement is only any use if both sides are willing to police it otherwise it's just a wish list.
I don't really see any strong words coming out of HQ over the continued use of inappropriate methods.
I don't see any change in management behaviour to suggest anything is coming from their side either.
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Add to that getting out later and merging with the school/work traffic vans are a bad idea compared with bicycles which require no fuel and can be pushed up footpaths etc.Darren Bent wrote:Van Sharing - fuel cost, maintenance, insurance, hire and bad for environment and parking problems in certain location.
Still cannot get my head around the answer I got from our ex DIM when I asked why the Royal Mail underground was shut.
He said it was because it is quicker over ground in vans and trucks,,,,, Yeah ,in London !!!! Whatever .

Absolutely agree, I was in Farming all my life before I joined Royal Mail nine years ago and the two businesses are very similar, both are seasonal in work load and in both making a future forecast on work load can be difficult ,add into the equation the fickle nature of customer demands ie sudden massive postings on shareholder issues etc and you have a very variable and volatile mix ,fishtank wrote:So what happens if we continue implementing park&loop and those revisions continue to fail and continue to cost the business a fortune?dingo wrote: So what happens if they scrap park and loop do we allow everyone to go back to cars on delivery and chase time again ?

Those at the top cannot work with these variations which becomes evident with this crazy "phasing up of staffing from the model week "..what a load of pish !

He was'nt saying getting people out on the street at 5.30, he was saying getting the mail sorted for 5.30, then people can come in and prep go out with what they've got. The 2nd wave of mail coming through coming through can then be delivered on a 2nd delivery............dingo wrote:

I don't know why RM/CWU HQ have to make things more difficult than they are......it ain't rocket science! P & L would've worked fine if they had just left the walks alone and given everyone a trolley. Instead they are trying to kill everyone off........pension deficit sorted

There were more fulltime jobs and the mail arrived early next morning if it was posted first class and it didn't cost a fortune to send it.
We had a win win situation. The public got a great service for a good price and a lot of working people got a job with reasonable pay, terms and conditions and pension.
We are seeing the effects of trying to make the public sector 'efficient'. Public sector workers are doing 3 or 4 times more work than public sector workers did 20 years ago. Service has suffered but bullshit customer surveys and pie charts are meant to convince us that service has actually improved and we shouldn't trust our own judgement. We have high unemployment and those in work are too afraid to go shopping and spend their money in case they lose their jobs. There is far too much overtime in the public sector and school leavers have no jobs to go to. We need job creation and we need good basic pay for ordinary working jobs.
EU regulations did not require Down Stream Access. The UK is the only country in Europe that does it. I don't understand why the Labour Government thought it was a good idea. Other countries oblige competitors to provide a universal service themselves.
A good public service is being deliberately run down by politicians who decided to privatise it long ago using 'fatcats' who only care about their bonuses.

Re: Moya sets out our strategy
Minster before automation we had no network 2009 , 2010 0r 2011. We did not have one outward sort and work came into delivery offices on wave 1 to 6 .
Now we have one outward pass , we have therefore more inward work in a mail centre. Automation will not be stood down.
Now in terms of the DSA model , the Postal Services act in 2000 bought in a regualtor , the Labour Government opened us up to competition before the rest of Europe , in addition Post Comm forced the DSA model all be it Adam Crozier did the final deal on the DSA price which must go down as one of the biggest mistakes in industry history.
The rationale for Post Comms decison was that the competition from DSA would only amount to bewteen 10 and 20 % but they got their calculations wrong and now Royal Mail have lost over 55% of that work.
Now where I do agree with you is that governments of all sides have runned down this industry over the last 25 years , from taking millions under the External Finanace Limit to unfair competiition to appointing Chairs and Chief executives who just want to run down the industry before selling it.
