Re: emergency tax or as its better known tax code ot
If you continue to get paid by Angard, and your real tax code is confirmed to them by the Inland Revenue (and/or they action the details on your P45) before you finish worting there, then the tax you've paid already will be credited back to you in due course (assuming you've not exceeded your annual tax free allowance already. Note too that the tax fee allowance is worked out pro rata - you're allowed to have earned one-twelfth of the annual tax free allowance each month since March 2011 before paying any tax).
When you finish at Angard, you should get a P45, which will detail your earnings to date and the tax you have paid to date. When you pass this to your next employer, a similar scheme will operate to make sure you don't pay more income tax than you should. )And don't forget as well that any earnings above the "lower earnings limit" will be subject to deduction of National Insurance - and I don't think there's any way to claim those back).
If at the end of the tax year (5April2012) you still think you've paid too much tax during the year, then you can reclaim it from the Inland Revenue. Just speak to your tax office and they'll talk you through how to claim it. Assuming they answer your telephone calls, that is .....
Cheers

Re: emergency tax or as its better known tax code ot
Hi
The correct emergency Tax Code is Not 0T, it is 747L week 1 Basis, the week 1 basis means it is non-cumulative with each week being treated seperate to previous weeks,
If Angard are operating 0T Week 1 basis for you (look for a 1 to the right of your payslip, this means week 1 basis, 0 means cumulative basis) it means that they have NOT received aP45 or P46 for you.
If they have received aP46 for you the code they will use depends on which box you "ticked" on the P46:-
A. Is this their first job since last 6 April and they have not been receiving taxable Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance, taxable Incapacity Benefit, state pension or occupational pension.
B. This is their only job, but since last 6 April they have had another job, or have received taxable Jobseeker's Allowance, Employment and Support Allowance or taxable Incapacity Benefit. They do not receive state or occupational pension.
C. They have another job or receive a state or occupational pension. You also need to know if there is any student loan information you need to be aware of. This statement should be considered.
D. If your employee left a course of UK Higher Education before last 6 April and received their first UK Student Loan instalment on or after 1 September 1998 and they have not fully repaid their Student Loan (You do not need to know about repaying student loans being repaid by agreement with the UK Student Loans Company by monthly direct from a bank or building society account).
Based on this the code Angard should use is:-
Statement declared by your employee Tax code to use
A 747L cumulative
B 747L week 1/month 1
C BR cumulative
None - your employee did not give you the information by their pay day 0T week 1/month 1
D Start making student loan deductions from the next pay day.
To get a refund of previously overpaid tax you need to be on a cumulative tax code and to have not exceeded your Free Pay allowance for the number of weeks in the year to-date, currently week 35. so if your total "earnings for the year to date (week 35) are less than £5034 (35/52 of £7479 Free Pay Allow)then you should not ay any tax at this point,
Extract from HMRC website :-
Employee information not received before the employee's first pay day
If your employee hasn't completed the P46 or provided you with the information in time for their first pay day you must still notify HMRC by completing the information online to the best of your knowledge on their behalf and use code 0T on a week 1/month 1 basis.
Note that using code 0T could result in your employee paying more tax than they need to on their first pay day - it's therefore important that you make them aware of the impact on their pay if they don't supply you with the information in time for you to complete the P46.

Re: emergency tax or as its better known tax code ot
Hi
If your payslip shows tax code 0T 1, then it means Angard classes you as not having submitted a P45 or P46.
If you have sent them either you need to contact them and ask them to confirm that they will process the P45/P46 in the next payroll.
I would suggest email as best route, you have more of a record if things go wrong again.
If you do phone, get the name of the person you speak to.
Assuming they do process your P45, it depends on the content of the P45 if you will get a refund of overpaid tax or not.
It is possible that your P45 was also Week 1 (non-cumulative) if it was then you will not get a refund until HMRC issue a cumulative code to Angard. Even if the P45 tax code was week 1, assuming it was a higher code than zero (probably 747L) you will pay less tax each week compared to 0T.
Assuming the code on your P45 was cumulative, you should get a refund of the tax overpaid whilst you were taxed using code 0T 1 in the week in which the P45 is processed. The following week should reflect your normal level of tax.
Hope this helps.

Re: emergency tax or as its better known tax code ot
It is a bit confusing.
If your payslip is showing 0T 1, then Angard are saying you have not sent them a P45 or P46.
If you have sent them your P45, you need to contact Angard payroll and get them to confirm they have received your P45 and then that they will process it in your next payslip.
It took them 2 weeks to process my P46.
If your P45 contained a cumulative code, then you should get a refund in the payslip in which it is first operated.
Without knowing what was shown on your P45 I cannot be more precise, sorry.
Majority of Uk population has atax code of 747L cumulative (this should show on your payslip as 747L 0), hopefully this is yours. If it is you can earn about £143 per week before you pay tax.

Angard as always very helpful.
If a friend hadn't told me to ask angard for the P46 formular, I wouldn't know what it is.
They ask everyone for their right to work in the UK, but they can't be bothered to tell people about P45 or P46.
Standard answer: "Not our responsibility"

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
