First Call

Post by Peter Borough »

Does anyone understand the relationship between Angard and First Call? We have both working on nights in Peterborough. First Call have their own hi-vis jackets so there is a kind of apartheid going on? Some nights the First Call lot are asked not to come in while Angard are. There doesn't seem to be a pattern but one of the first callers told me Health and Safety had been cited as the reason he misses out on a night's wages. Surely if it's safe a safe working environment for me then it's also safe for him? I'm not complaining. The night's go quicker when there's more work to do.

I also work in Peterborough (shrewsbury avenue) but I do earlies 6am-2pm and its the same then as well. It seems that Royal Mail call individuals up when required as all this week they haven't been in but today there was about 10-15 people from that agency. (not complaining as there is plenty to do), I actually feel slightly sorry fro them as they have no guaranteed work. The other thing that i think is odd id that when i went to registration event at queensgate there was loads of people there and there still using this first call agency when there is probably plenty of angard staff waiting to work!!

i think there is a fine line between how many people u need on a shift and a lot is dependent on the workload also?dont really understand why they use first call tho, why not just hire more people through angard as the company would have it cheaper and you may also get more reliable staff?think a lot of first call were in yesterday because of some of the angard regulars were not for some reason?different shift patterns maybe?also seems strange as apparently they have had problems with staff from first call already?i think angard needs to be a lot more consistent with its numbers and recruitment policy as this does not seem to be working really?apparently first callers were meant to be on a 5 day contract like everyone else but they are not?maybe they are just using this agency to forfill certain recruitment criteria?
