What better opportunity to teach new starts right from the beginning how to do the job by the book, where the union rep is,how to join the union, what managers can and can't get away with and how to stand up for yourself than have a decent workplace coach.
The problem is many offices have a useless workplace coach.
It's not the position that's pointless...it's a lot of the people in post who are.
The union missed a trick on this, they should have demanded input in the recruiting process.
It's an organisational goldmine waiting to be tapped for them,if we had union sympathisers instead of too many management pets the role we would increase membership in a big way and help to strengthen an office.
we have 4
none of any cop
2 Ive never seen 'train' anyone
I say train as its not what I would deem trained
Perhaps this is a local thing but we either have a recruitment freeze ........or we don't.
Consequently we get several new recruits in at the same time and the workplace coach can only train one of them.
Finding "training walks" to bed them all in is difficult.

I didn't say ALL of them were blue eyes, I said most of them and that would be what most of the other members think as well in my place of work. Don't worry I've no doubt that you don't fall into that bracket.

the main one that trains in our office comes in early, doesnt take a break and uses their car
what chance do you have.
as a manager appointed position I would never be put in this position
regardless of carrying training qualifications from a previous job and (If I do say so myself) being more than competent in this one.
I could train someone exactly on how the job should be done
of course thats no good to the DIMs

when my manager was interviewing for the coach he said there was no way he would give it to a union official because they would train people to do the job properly. nough said really.
Have they done away with Workplace Coaches?
Obviously those already in post remain and still receive the allowance, but is it correct that no more coaches will be recruited?
And if so is there still a training allowance for those that do the training in the absence of a coach.
