LTB 995/11 CWU ADDRESS RMG TOP 900 MANAGERS FORUM
24 November 2011
LTB 995/11 CWU ADDRESS ROYAL MAIL GROUP TOP 900 MANAGERS’ FORUM
TO: ALL BRANCHES WITH POSTAL MEMBERS
Dear Colleague
CWU ADDRESS ROYAL MAIL GROUP TOP 900 MANAGERS’ FORUM
From time to time, postal Branches will be aware, that the Royal Mail Group holds major events for all their senior managers across the company.
On the 22nd November the 900 most senior managers in the company attended one of these events at the NEC in Birmingham. For the first time ever the Union were invited and given the opportunity to address the forum.
The CWU believe it is important that we take these opportunities to engage directly with managers, gaining a better understanding of their views and business strategies, whilst putting forward the CWU perspective of the major challenges we all face.
In addressing the Forum the Union gave a comprehensive update on our position on all current national issues. We also focused strongly on the need for managers to play their part, together with the CWU, in improving industrial and employee relations.
The organisers of the event requested that the slides used in the Union’s presentation were provided to all the managers present. We agreed to this request and have attached a copy of these slides for Postal Branches to distribute to our representatives, where you feel this is appropriate.
It is likely that this event will be given publicity in the Courier and the Voice and therefore Branches should bring it to the attention of our members.
Any enquiries on this LTB should be addressed to the DGS (P) Department.
Yours sincerely
Dave Ward
Deputy General Secretary (P)

They should be talking to us and not cosying up to management, how about CWU HQ tell us what they're playing at? Where's the slides? If the members in my office see this crap in the Courier, their going to be asking why we are talking to a bunch on disingenuous lying twats that have just robbed us of our colleague shares, only to later wave their million pound a day profits under our noses.

The DDA/Equality Act demands action,NOT words......adjustments NOT Occupational Health referrals.Case No:2505901/09
Royal Mail is an Equal Opportunities Employer..It discriminates against everybody.

Re: LTB 995/11 CWU ADDRESS RMG TOP 900 MANAGERS FORUM
It does make you laugh , everyone complains of failing delivery revisons and nothing being done and that Royal Mail seems oblivious to this. Yet when Dave Ward attends to tell all the senior managers that their delivery revisons are not working and they are pushing delivery staff to far and they have to stop etc that people then moan that the CWU is doing for that.
In fact Mark Higson at the same event for the first time according to some of the managers I met yesterday conceded for the first time to such an event that some delivery revisons are not going well and will not save the money they thought.
Now if the union attends such an event makes that point , dont you think that is what it should do ?

That is the funniest thing I have ever read on this site.In fact Mark Higson at the same event for the first time according to some of the managers I met yesterday conceded for the first time to such an event that some delivery revisons are not going well and will not save the money they thought.
Not a dig at you Dingo, just what you've reported.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: LTB 995/11 CWU ADDRESS RMG TOP 900 MANAGERS FORUM
No problems but anyone who know Mark Higson will know he obsessed with statistics on almost everything. Remember it his business plan and whilst he cant hide the fact that places like Dundee , Crewe , Maidenhead and some of the Kent revisons have been unrivalled disasters and he has normally blamed either the managers or the staff.
The difference this time is in a meeting with every senior operations manager he has admitted that the tools which create the actual revison may not either work or hit the target which they believed it would. Now if you really think that is not significant fair enough but I differ.
Now in terms of Dave`s address I think it was equally important that he spoke about the fact that relations have not improved , that the pension issue is a major issue for the workforce and that the CWU will not accept any further reductions. In addition that Royal Mail had in many locations reached the end of the line in terms of what they are asking for in terms of delivey staff be that savings , absorption , delivery office closures etc.
Now equally anyone who knows Dave will know that he dont mince his words when putting the members views across to Royal Mail in negotiations as Adam Crozier found out on numerous occcasions.
Whats the point of all these threads on failing revisons if when the CWU goes into the lions den of 900 operational , planning and HR managers that it does not tell the business as blunt as it could be that Royal Mail`s strategy for delivery is not working and they need to revisit it.
Thats not partnership , nor is it being in managements pockets, its called taking the memberships view straight to the heart of management.
