Re: is enjoying u self allowed at work?
There's nothing wrong with enjoying something, especially if others around you enjoy what they're doing too. It partly makes a job what it is, except for the obvious money side of things. But if you're miserable about it, then what's the point? The shifts will just seem to last for far longer.

Re: is enjoying u self allowed at work?
It probably depends on whether you are used to working on your feet for 8 hours with only a 40 minute break in an organisation with the lowest staff morale I have ever come across, doing mind numbingly repetitive work with a high number of mis-sorts interfering with your productivity and the permanent staff telling you not to work so fast though you know that you have to finish all the mail that comes in before you go off and that the last hour will be hectic however much the previous 7 have dragged and if you do finish with half an hour to spare they'll make you move empty yorks around just to keep you busy and at the end of the day you don't know whether you'll get paid on time or accurately and you'll be half deafened by the irritating radio, your hands will be filthy and the air is dry and producing coughs in most of my fellow workers.
If you can enjoy that then look forward to working for angard and RM for christmas. If you've got any sanity at all you'll get a job doing anything else at all next year. I'm thinking of taking up male prostitution, drug dealing, gun running and armed robbery (not necessarily in that order): they'd all be more fun than working for angard/RM................

Re: is enjoying u self allowed at work?
I've worked for RMG for the last couple of years at Christmas, and they were definitely the worst work experiences of my life. I'm shocked they somehow managed to make it worse this year, by not telling me anything until 3 days before I'm due to start and making me worried about if I'll get turned away or even paid properly when I start.

yeah i was thinking the same thing. funny how the casuals at our depot have so much more about them. Seriously how do some of the perm staff keep there jobs. Was working today with all the regulars and there is a mail sorter next to me doing about 5 letters an hour. So management come round waste even more time talking to everyone even if you are pulling you weight and he turns round and says I blame the temps. I told him what I thought and he needed a kick up the arse cmon does nobody see this/.

Re: is enjoying u self allowed at work?
5 letter per hour was worked out as a national mail centre average after long exhaustive negotiations by the unions! Seriously in answer to your question YES we do see it but to be honest I never let it bother me, its not my place to do anything about it. There are however people paid money to be "managers" who believe it or not have as part of the job description a duty to manage.acmilano wrote:yeah i was thinking the same thing. funny how the casuals at our depot have so much more about them. It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.
My BFF Clash
The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

re. Line Managers i/c of casuals: they're usually ordinary RM-ers bumped up to temp manager status. The one we've got this year can't sort for toffee, but does know how the system works ie how long we've got 'til tie-up etc. & what to prioritise. Very nice lady though. Honest. Last year's bloke cheerfully admitted to wearing an Oxfam suit & tie for the occasion. Met him in Feb. & he was back to fixing the CFC thing's conveyor belt.
As for the mighty Bellend Kid, maybe no-one's smiling at him cos of his chat up lines.
And does anyone know why Ilford is IG?

Enjoying yourself is not allowed. Seriously. Last night in work two guys sorting mail next to me were chatting away whilst working and they got split up. No joke.

When we used to do the Xmas sorting at our DO, if we were chatting and having a laugh we got moved...guitar-mike wrote:Enjoying yourself is not allowed. Seriously. Last night in work two guys sorting mail next to me were chatting away whilst working and they got split up. No joke.
