disagree if you like but the Universal Service Obligation for royal mail is one delivery per day to every delivery point, royal mail may have its own set targets but it is not obliged to do anything by any set timekeithposty wrote:i must disagree on that by way of a freedom of information request on royal mailzx135 wrote:keithposty wrote: i know that the max last delivery for town is 3 pm and rural is 4 pm according to the U.S.O.
thats actually incorrect, the USO is only 1 delivery per day to every delivery point, there is no part of the uso which states a latest time unfortunately

Our Universal Delivery Service
What are our obligations?
Royal Mail has an obligation to deliver mail to every UK address every working day and we go to considerable lengths to deliver to remote and isolated communities across the UK. Whilst we will make every reasonable and practicable effort to deliver mail to every address, no matter how remote, there are a small number of addresses where we are unable to do this due to exceptional circumstances. These addresses are known as exceptions to the delivery universal service obligation (USO). They are permitted by both UK and EU law. Customers can appeal against Royal Mail’s decision not to make a daily delivery to their premises.
Now what freedon of information request are you referring to?

Re: LONG & SHORTS AND MAX FINISH TIMES
well if you live in the outer hebrides for example, then the uso would have an exemption
that is the exception though, not the norm

the USO does not have a time set against it, exemptions are ones which dont have daily deliveries, there is nothing in the uso about deliveries before a certain time

Re: LONG & SHORTS AND MAX FINISH TIMES
For addresses in urban areas we endeavour to make one delivery every working day by 3pm. For addresses in rural areas Royal Mail endeavours to make one delivery every working day by 4pm (subject to exceptions for remote areas with limited transport infrastructure such as the Highlands and Islands).
Deliveries are scheduled to be completed by these times and Royal Mail endeavours to maintain this every working day, but daily volume variations, transport disruptions and operating issues mean that there may be some limited extension

Re: LONG & SHORTS AND MAX FINISH TIMES
any ideas on how 'Rural' & 'Urban' are defined? I deliver in a village (approx 2500 delivery points split into 6 cycle walks) and it seems management change our status at will (depending on what suits them)!

I may be wrong but the impression I get is a Rural delivery is one that is serviced by a single van driver who takes everything for their delivery, and that is Geographically widespread.

The van is the key.
If the suspension, engine and gearbox are shot and the door mirrors have been chewed on by a mad collie...
It's a rural.

And there is four inches of dried cow s**t and the van inside looks like a muddy skip, the shock's are knackered, it creaks everywhere, stinks, remains of three or four pheasantsfishtank wrote:The van is the key.

Re: LONG & SHORTS AND MAX FINISH TIMES
Gets me why the rural vans don't have mud guards. The factory fitted ones are pretty solid, but I guess it's all down to initial cost. Thing is though, the vans get washed and come end of play the next day, they're caked in shite again, especially at this time of year. With mud guards fitted it would reduce the need to wash the vans as much and the public might actually see cleaner vans more often. The reduced costs on van washing would surely out weigh the cost of the mud guards over the life of the van in service.
