No post? You can deliver it if you like...

When businessman Alan Brady failed to receive any post for three days he called at his local sorting office to find out what was happening.

He was told that the postman who usually delivered his mail was off on paternity leave, and that Royal Mail had been unable to provide cover for him.

Mr Brady, who works from his home in Frome, Somerset, was disappointed that such a situation could arise but picked up his post and pointed out that a neighbour also worked from home and relied on the post to inform him where he would need to work next.

To Mr Brady’s amazement he was then told he could take his neighbour’s post to deliver if he wished.

Mr Brady said yesterday: “I was very dissatisfied with what I was told. Surely the postal delivery service is vital, people could be waiting for important medical results, and businesses can also be held up if the post is delayed.

“I was astonished when the member of staff offered to hand me my neighbour’s post. We are good friends but it can’t be good security to offer to give post to a third party.”

Royal Mail spokesperson, Val Bodden, said Royal Mail apologises to customers in the Spring Gardens area of Frome, "for the slight disruption to deliveries, caused by exceptionally high levels of staff sickness".

She added: “Our staff responded to the situation and worked hard to restore normal service as quickly as possible. The safety and security of our customers’ mail is very important to us.”

Not nearly good enough.
If the D.O. had gone out on strike they would have dragged every lard-assed manager for 100 miles in to cover/scab but this place has a few extra sickies and the deliveries stop...and they offer to hand out mail to strangers.
Heads should roll. :cuppa

"for the slight disruption to deliveries, caused by exceptionally high levels of staff sickness".
What's causing this? Couldn't be extra workload. More of this in the future.

Just what I was thinking. Exceptionally high levels of staff sickness, due to exceptionally high workloads.

Isn't this the 2nd or 3rd news item like this over the last month or so where deliveries are not going out because of no cover.
How the hell does that work?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Because managers care too much about their budgets than clearing the office.
If the DOM hasn't been reporting the failures in his daily conference call then he's in for the high jump but if it's been reported then the DSM is probably in for a promotion
