Now I have had this situation for the last 6 months , If you want to make up your money then ok, but as some have said on here we are fighting for not being bullied ourselves for not having to be forced to do O/T or in my case I would cutt off, which has led me into being conduct coded for it and also being moved to a mail centre 15 miles away or IHR, all because the manager does not like me for doing the job properly,

Has he got away with it, NO he was bought to task this week by my area reps and myself, :nana :nana a lot of stress on my part over the last six months :cry

Also another person was involved to do with DDA and Royal Mail as a company was taken to task as well .

Just waiting for the adjustments to take place, would like an Apology from both managers but that may never happen :cuppa :wave

There is another issue with booking extended overtime...against cutting off.
If you are continually booking overtime on your own duty there is obviously a problem with that duty.
If you continue to book extended overtime on that duty it is unlikely that problem will ever be addressed.
If you go over by 30 minutes it will cost the business 30 minutes.
If you cut off 30 minutes it will usually cost the business around an hour once travelling time has been added.
You can understand why the business would rather you booked extended and why the issue of overrunning deliveries is never properly addressed.

From a members point of view the sensible thing to do is cut off and therefore create more overtime and more earning opportunity for the entire office.
However some offices have highly dubious overtime allocation practices and i can understand the fear that all of the overtime will end up in the same pockets.

work o/t if you want but as has been said dont cry when there are no f/t posts being created, also why take a p/t job then say the money is not enough, i take it you knew the wages before you started and if you are relying on o/t then you will be exploited by managers

The whole model week/flexing up scenario depends on staff working overtime.
The societies of consumption and squandering of material resources are incompatible with the idea of economic growth and a clean planet.

Sliders wrote:Just an observation about a lot of posts on the forum. It seems that cutting off is advised a lot on the forum. This might be alright for full-timers, and even a lot of part-timers, however, for part timers like myself, doing overtime is the only way to come out at the end of the week with a half decent wage. So I say if your a part timer and need the money, then bring on the overtime, the more the better, especially this time of year, and its not about helping the managers out, its about helping my bank balance out, which at the moment is looking pretty flimsy. Anyone else actually like me, and want the overtime ?
Blimey, you're gonna be part-time for ever.

One big issue is when you don't actually get paid the o/t hence why people "cut off"

Why take a part-time job ! Do you know what it is like to get any sort of job in todays climate ? Let me tell you it is HARD, A part-time job is better than dole, trust me.

doing a part time job, agreeing to all the bullies, overtime etc is the reason

WHY THERE ARE NO FULL TIME JOBS

just you try and get a mortage on a part time or fixed term contract

this time next year they will be ZERO hour contracts and no union membership thanks to all these non full time staff

then you will all be bleating on that you only get minimum wage

try seeing into the future instead of your next wage packet, we have learnt that lesson allready with d2d etc

once its gone, its gone for good

just like full time jobs

even if you get made up to full time hours, it will still be a FIXED TERM CONTRACT

Well I agree that if your not getting payed the overtime then cut off, after all nobody is doing this job for the sake of their health, or to help RM out. Likewise with bullying into doing overtime, if you don't want to do it, don't do it and don't let managers try and force you to do it (by the way when I said I would tell the managers to f*** off, it was a figure of speech). Also how many people are there in the UK that work on salary ? where they get the same pay no matter how many hours they work ? I imagine a lot, at least for those who do overtime for RM are payed, or at least should be.

And like I said earlier, it is not down to part-timers to change RM practices, I believe it is down to the union and also the senior full-timers who complain about RM practices, but allowed these practices to come in on their watch. Instead of complaining now after it has happened, maybe more of a fight should have been put up, by the union and senior full-time posties when these practices were being introduced, and then maybe there would be more full-timers and less part-timers working in the RM now. So your right Fishtank every action has a reaction, its a shame that the reaction by our union and its senior members in the past was clearly not good enough.

I agree 100% its easy for people with full time jobs to have a go at people who are trying to better themselves, its nigh on impossible to get a job now

I don't think spillie was having a go,i think he was making the point that you don't take a part-time job expecting full-time hours.
You may hope for them, you may have no choice because there is bugger all else out there but you know that the only thing guaranteed at the end of the week is your contracted hours.
That is what you should base your decision whether or not to take the job on because the OT can dry up with no notice at all.
So the question is...if the OT was not available would you be forced to jack in a job that you accepted on the basis of part-time contracted hours?
It's not an attack it's a genuine question.

Once again the union should shoulder the blame here in my opinion. Correct me if I am wrong but BT2010 model was 75% F/T and 25% P/T. In our office full time jobs have only decreased as I am sure is the case in most offices. Therefore a clear contrevention of BT 2010 and they did nothing...... These P/T staff are no different to F/T staff and should be helped by the union not handed out broken promises, we are all part of the union....

Slider I take my hat off to you mate yes a P/T job is better than the dole, and you take whatever O/T is available to you, and I do hope that BT 2010 is finally implemented and more P/T workers are able to go F/T......

thanks fishtank, you see the reaction to what i said, that is the reaction companies and bosses love to hear they set us against each other when we should be sticking together, i know its hard on p/t wages "I AM P/T", if we continue to lust after o/t then there is a price to pay and that is less f/t staff and the driving down of pay rates for o/t as has happened within RM over the last 10 years
