Royal Mail has postponed the planned closure of its Fishguard sorting office as talks with the Communication Workers Union (CWU) continue.
Gary Williams, CWU Branch Secretary for west Wales said: "This is good news for our members working at Fishguard and good news for the local community who have supported the fight to keep the office open but we must keep up the pressure on Royal Mail to abandon the plans altogether.
"Royal Mail have only removed the closure date temporarily to allow further discussions with the union. We will be challenging Royal Mail's plans in detail but need the support of the local community to help us."
The office was originally to close on October 31st and Royal Mail had already written to customers detailing the new arrangements.
Royal Mail Director of Collections and Delivery Wales, Ian Edwards, said: “Royal Mail has decided to postpone a decision on the closure of Fishguard Delivery Office in order to continue to discuss and work on resolving some outstanding issues raised by the postal communication workers union (CWU). A revised date for the merger plan will be announced as soon as possible."
Royal Mail confirmed that customers will be able to collect undelivered items from Fishguard Post Office on West Street from Monday, October 31st, from 9am-5.30pm Monday-Friday and 9am-12.30pm on Saturday.
Gary Watkins, Wales Regional Secretary for CWU said: "There is no doubt that the pressure put on Royal Mail from the local community made them think again about rushing things through. With the support of our members working at Fishguard we will now scrutinize in detail their plans and make the case for the office to stay open."

I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
