Didn't want to say anything earlier, because you were obviously going through the mill, but wouldn't it have been easier to have just taken the letter of them in the first place and said something like "no worries, I'll return it to sender", then just put a sticker on it when you got back to the office, marking either 'gone away' or 'refused', instead of trying to post it again.

could not do that as it was a multiple occupied address and the letter was not even addressed to her if the guy had lived there and i started killing off his mail on her say so id have been done for that when he complained.
