Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre
The Nelson Mail Centre, or the "Outhouse" as we call it, is near Anchorage Park.
Early turn that process mailsort were moved out due to space issues. The ground floor PDC area was used for mail sort in the morning, nothing in the afternoon and then packets and perstorps in the evening/nights. New machines are going/have gone on the first floor and so the PO4/5 frames were moved downstairs. So no room for anything else and mailsort had to go. It was rumoured that it might go to SOMC, meaning PO job losses, but eventually a pompey site was found. The downstairs PDC area is now a complete mess on lates and is used to store 2C packet sleeves which go to SO, while the late shift drivers on perstorps have no room for their work. All a big mess really, but then some acting on "Special Projects" will get a big pat on the back
Oh and it was panic on Friday because the Hovercraft was taken out of service due to safety reasons and could be suspended for some time. So all the late stuff from IOW, including specials, will have failed. Could be fun as we get towards Christmas

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre
I did hear about the Hovercraft being taken out of service. Either way perhaps POMC will last beyond this current SW review.

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre
On Friday it came by the Portsmouth car ferry which is why it would have failed.
Haven't heard what plans they are making today, but it's a huge problem for RM

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre
In the RM recruit section it has an entry for "Casual Flexible Resource" for the Portsmouth MC over Christmas. Part of the application process makes a big deal about there being a likelihood that the working hours could be outside usual public transport hours - but does not actually state what those hours may be - can anyone please tell me what the Delivery Office hours are (the Sort bit rather than the enquiry office bit).
many thanks in advance.

Re: Portsmouth Mail Centre
Mon-Fri the mail centre is a 24 hour operation. I think there is a night shift on Sunday as well. So I guess the're talking about working nights.
