ROYAL Mail has been branded “ludicrous” after it emerged delivery staff from one of its companies were dropping packages on unmade roads from where posties have been banned.
The postal service stopped delivering letters to a dozen unmade roads in Benfleet last month because of health and safety concerns.
However, yesterday Gerry Bullock, 75, of Wensley Road, Benfleet, had a package delivered to his door by a postman from Parcelforce Worldwide, a subsidiary of the Royal Mail.
A spokesman for the postal service later confirmed Parcelforce vans are still allowed to drive along the streets, yet standard Royal Mail delivery vehicles are not.
Castle Point Boyce ward councillor Wendy Goodwin said: “If Parcelforce can deliver and refuse can be picked up, it’s quite ludicrous to say there is a problem.”
Mr Bullock, who photographer the Parcelforce van, also claimed he had seen Royal Mail vans using unmade roads as shortcuts between routes.
Castle Point MP Rebecca Harris has asked Postal Services Minister Ed Davey to investigate.
She said: “He’s going to look into it to see if the removal of services complies with the Postal Services Act.”

If postmen refuse to deliver then sack them for not fulfilling their contracted duty. There are plenty of young people out there who would willingly work.
This country has sadly lost its direction. Get rid of those who dream up the health and safety rules there by get rid of health and safety and bring back common sense. The people who gain mostly from H&S are the Barristers etc.

Very true but you have to remember, PF vans are a lot bigger and are further off the ground than our wee Combos or Bippers, and the fact that PF vans don't have to drive up and down that road everyday.Stormproof wrote:Now the local press have bought the ParcelForce delivery to RM attention whats the betting they stop delivering

Start delivering again and if the road is that bad and the vehicle suffers damage let the residents cough up to pay for repairs! Bet the issue would be resolved quickly then..
Is the road public or private?

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
