Bristol and Glasgow from phase 2 and Leeds from phase 3 have achieved Bronze level in the World Class Mail Audit (WCMA).

They were judged by WCMA external assessors Professor Yamashina (pictured with staff at the Glasgow site), Mr Della Pria, FIAT auto director for India and China, and Mr Silvistrini, director at CNH’s Jesi plant.

The Bronze level was assessed based on performance improvement. Examples include:

Safety

15 months with no lost time accident in Glasgow
Seven months no first aid incident in Bristol
Cost efficiency

All three plants more than 8% year-on-year hours reduction.
Leeds items per work hour (IPWH) up more than15% year-on-year

Frontline engagement and use of tools

70% of operators are involved in Kaisen activity, Safety Manager Audit Training (SMAT), and sketching, which helps visualise a problem by drawing it, as it makes you study the process.
The auditors met frontline operators, postmen and women, engineers and managers at the three sites to hear about their commitment to making Royal Mail better and the skills that the World Class Mail programme is uncovering and developing.

Driving performance

The three plant managers will take colleagues to the WCMA ceremony next year to receive their awards.

Anthony Thorne, head of World Class Mail, says: ‘At all three sites the highlight was the front line involvement and commitment in driving the performance at their site.

‘The level of knowledge, commitment and results achieved was amazing, which really impressed all of the auditors and observers.’

The next step will be for the three sites to keep progressing and continue to be audited every four months so they can challenge for silver and eventually gold.

Then they will be World Class.

Of course it is hubba but unlike yearly savings plans this is a continuous program so once you've signed up to it how the hell do you put the brakes on it?
It still baffles me why the union endorsed this and the Indoor Flow Process.

I wish I was world class - working at 100% efficiency - but how would I improve next year and so on ? It must be because I dont study Kaisen activity with Professor Yamachina. Seriously though, I do pity those that choose to get involved in this rubbish. Do you remember in the Courier a few years ago when each MC or area was given a football club name and `competed` in a league to see who was best ?
Tommorrow morning I will line my rubber bands up in an efficient row to speed up my throughput and reach my meaning of life....
on the other hand, I will do my days work, not worship the company, and go home.

another problem that isnt mentioned is that, if you have an accident working,you may be presurised not to report it.as this would affect "no hours lost through accidents".
