The team at Swansea (Not Swansea (Jubilee) MC)mail centre has achieved its second walk-sequencing trigger target – just four weeks after fully deploying new sequencing machines. As part of the Business Transformation 2010 and Beyond agreement, each mail centre has a target for implementing walk-sequencing technology and hitting locally agreed targets.
Less time
The new machines, part of our modernisation programme, sort mail more efficiently than by hand – putting mail in exact walk order.
This means postmen and women spend less time prepping their mail before going out on deliveries, freeing up time for longer delivery spans.
Our target is to put 75% of mail in exact walk order. We’ve recently achieved 59%.
Our 500th Compact Sequence Sorter (CSS) was installed at Perth delivery office in September. We now have fewer than 100 more to put in.
High-tech
CSS operator Erwin Banag says: ‘This is the best duty I have ever performed at Jubilee. It feels very hi-tech with the touch screen and the speed of the machine.’
Colleague Samuel Adeboye says: ’I like the duty pattern. Working on the CSS is better than manual work and it feels good as I’m helping my colleagues in delivery with their workload.’
Team-work
Intelligent Letter Sorting Machines (iLSMs) also sequence mail.
Operator Steve Lumley says: ‘Sequencing on this large machine requires extra concentration as we need to keep the mail in the right order. We achieved our targets through good teamwork.’
iLSM operator Bernice Amarteifio adds: ‘I enjoy working on the iLSM as it keeps me active during my shift and the time goes quickly. The machine is very fast!’
