Changes to Goring mail delivery

GORING residents may not receive their mail until 4pm, after the Royal Mail has made changes to its delivery system.

Over the next few weeks, postmen and women will be using new delivery methods and have adopted revised delivery routes as part of a nationwide scheme to modernise the Royal Mail delivery service.

Royal Mail said it will continue to deliver in the morning and for a longer period during the day, and many customers will continue to get their mail by lunch-time.

The time customers receive mail will also depend on where they live on the new delivery route, and may be later or possibly earlier than current delivery times. However, when mail volumes are high, delivery arrangements and times will need to be adjusted.

Royal Mail’s collections and delivery sector manager Irene Scott said: “The local delivery team and I are fully committed to providing a high quality of service that is as reliable and friendly as customers have come to expect from Royal Mail in Goring over many years.”

However, Goring residents and businesses did not seem to be fazed by the changes – with some businesses still not having received any notification at all.

Susan Gill, of Goring Road, said: “I am retired, so to be honest the changes do not affect me. However, I think it’s a shame we won’t see the postman on his bike any more – ours pushes around this trolley thing now and it’s not the same. I don’t know how it can be quicker, and the pavements are already congested.”

Anne Freeman, also of Goring Road, said: “Our post is so haphazard, anyway, that what difference does another couple of hours make? Some days it doesn’t come until past lunchtime – but I suppose people who are at work all day won’t notice the difference, anyway.”

Any customers with queries after they have received a letter can call the customer services team on 0845 601 1399.
