Because SO MC can (just about) deal with the 2c traffic, but would never cope with ALL PO mails, and because PO deals with IOW mail as well.

What % of total traffic (all types, specials, tracked, letters, flats packets, etc) does all the SP area make up of SO MC's total traffic?

At a guess,around 25%.SP covers a large area,but nearly all rural,with a lot of army barracks.

Whilst it is true that mech can be moved out of a building over a weekend, the installation of an iLSM represents a very large investment. Also iLSMs take several days to install at a large cost and this money would not be invested if a site were to close. If you look at the list of offices that have them, none are likely to close in the present modernisation phase.

About 2 years ago a list of MCs to get iLSMs was available but this only covered up to 2011. Home Counties North and Norwich are the latest offices to get them.

More than that Dodger, it takes months of planning for the actual removal/replacement to minimise the impact on the ops side, plans need to be rewritten for the different machine structure, etc, the site needs to be surveyed for electrical capacity and cable changes, floor plan amendments, data cabling, removal of site furniture to allow equipment in, additional PCs, monitors etc arranged, then staff choosing and training (with all the HR problems attendant with that), possible despatch time alterations, etc.

But, as Hubble says, "it only takes a weekend....." :whistle

Did i say it takes a weekend to PLAN machine removal,or to actually REMOVE them?
Don't bother trying to blur the margins, because most people on here are used to your atempts at sniping, however unsucessful they end up....

On a side note,I didn't see any reply to my post on this: http://www.royalmailchat.co.uk/communit ... 18&t=40149" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; ?

iLSM's and in fact all mech kit can be put in and taken out over a weekend(as you well know),
So when you said this you meant it can be done in a weekend, apart from the complex but essential time-consuming part which takes months?

CSS Machines could be moved from any office in about half a day, if a CSS is located in an MC then they could probably take it away whole, without dismantling it (just jacking it up onto suitable wheels) as they don't have any permant connections (both the mains and data cables are just plug and sockets)

Obviously there is a lot more to installing a machine that goes on "behind the scenes",but that is my whole point.
How would an average postie know what is being planned by the people who make the choices of which mailcentres are staying or closing/relocating?
The whole point is,everyone ie kept in the dark, until it suits management............

So Tman, which other offices are on the list to receive iLSM's?
And Hubba, there is a BT agreement signed between RM and the CWU which states that MCs have to go through a 90 day process before agreement to close. Although RM knows how the MC Network will look in 2017, these details cannot be released. By speaking to the relevant people in a MC you can soon find out what's likely to happen. Senior Union reps usually have a good idea and Processing Managers. You will probably get lots of different answers but a common theme usually emerges.

I am aware of the 90 day agreement, and i'm also aware that the SW is the last area to go through the process.
In past closures/relocations management and CWU have met behind closed doors under an agreement not to mention the contents of the talks until the 90 days is up.

One thing that goes against POMC is AFAIK they can't handle double-stacker artics

The difficulty (in regards to closing POMC) though, is that the obvious MC to handle the additional POMC work, is SOMC, but SOMC have poorly performing out-dated IMPs, and are a poor office failing regularly.
Bottom of just about every league table for performance.
Having the PO area, (a wide rural area + a medium sized city + the IoW) in addition to SO's own work, is a non-starter within the current set-up. Add in the fact that RM's strapped for cash, and a super-MC in the South remains just a dream for now.

There's loads of s**t happening at POMC and all you guys want to talk about is mech and artics. For a start, not interested in management bullying then - not interested in why so many people are on stage 1s and 2s? You guys are either being looked after or are guvnors - or perhaps even lower in the gutter - acting guvnors :evil/mad :evil/mad :evil/mad
