The one near us thanks me for doing 36 in a 40 when I'm doing 40 ish...andy2007 wrote:Because the newer cameras (which take a photo of the driver), uses the same technology as the handheld speed traps (and the speed signs that have been appearing over the last few years), and therefore provide an accurate measurement of your speed. This technology was too expensive, when the Gatso cameras were introduced. They also use the same technology for the average speed traps.

Re: Speed cameras
You must have a car with an analogue Speedo. Depending on the manufacturer, they can (legally) exadurate your speed by up to 10% (and some are out by that much), so if it looked like you were doing 42, you could actually be doing 38. Most (but not all) digital Speedos are accurate to + or - 1 MPH (because it has to round up or down your speed to a whole MPH)

Re: Speed cameras
Sounds like a Gatso catching someone going the other way.. Shouldn't be flashing towards oncoming.
There are forward facing cameras (Truvelo) but they use infrared flash, which you wouldn't see.
