Proof of NI Card - Christmas Casual Interview

I've got an interview on thursday for the christmas casual temp. I don't how, but i misplaced my NI Card and can't seem to find it anywhere at all. I photocopied it already, but they ask for the original card, aswell as the photocopy. Can i jus take my HM Revenue letter that came with the NI Card and its photocopy as proof. It's only the number thats necessary, not the card itself.

Regarding the interview, How is the process, mines is a 15min slot it says. What kind of questions do they ask and all ? I've never had any experience is sorting/ shuffling or whatver's required.. though i guess its just labour work.

Nothing, you go into a room with loads of people they ask what shifts you want and times and that's it. Have you got a payslip or something? Just take along your letter too. They never asked to see my NI Card anyways.

Do yourself a favour and look for seasonal work elsewhere. Angard is a shambles - from registration days to actually working there. Don't expect to work 48 hrs a week like they say. You'll be lucky to get a couple of days the week before Xmas. And whatever hours you work you won't get paid for ages despite what their contract says.

Unofficially it seems that the slots are on a 1st come 1st served basis,when the jobs run out there are no more slots,in some areas at least.Keep trying though.

I don't have a payslip. This will be my first kind of formal job, I have a letter from HMRC which came along with the NI Card , can i take that (its got the numebr on it ). I also photocopied my NI card before i lost it.

Had a similar problem today. Went along with all my documents in order, passport etc. Only to be told that i needed 'proof' of my NI number (it was blank on my past wage slip due to admin cock up). Well i can recall my NI number by heart and explained that it would be a cinch to copy a wage slip on excel and put one in, anyone could do it in 5 min. 'Ahh',spots the intrepid interviewer 'your documents are checked', 'its a real wage slip' says i 'if they'll be checked anyway,and my past employer will just confirm it writing in the number now is the same thing surely?'. Faultless logic prevailed and we went ahead, but they still weren't hopeful of the outcome. I even showed them the Email i received from Angard stating the 'proof' of NI isn't required if your using a passport as ID, but faced with any empty box to be ticked in front of them they weren't hopeful!
The staff were actually helpful dealing with the Byzantine bureaucracy that is box ticking over and above any degree of common sense.

If you've lost or can't remember your National Insurance number or lost your National Insurance number card

If you've lost or can't remember your number, you might be able to find it on official paperwork like:
•your P60 (end of year tax statement, given to you by your employer)
•a payslip
•a copy of your annual Self Assessment tax return
•other official correspondence

If you still can't find your number, you can ask HMRC to confirm it by:andpleting fand returning form CA5403 Your National Insurance number

Proof of NI number is required for proof of National Insurance, as it says elsewhere in the guidelines, though it is only required in conjunction with a long birth certificate if being used to prove right to work in the UK (you are required to prove both at the interview)- I appreciate that this is not very clear and has led to confusion on several occasions, I'm sure. The trouble is that all the documents need to be verified to go off the the CRB people- if anything is missing at that stage the security check is failed & the application is rejected, so it would be pointless to proceed further. You can prove your NI number with a tax document, P45 or similar, dated within 1 year. It doesn't have to be the official card. It does, however, need to be an original document, as a photocopy would be too easy to change. Obviously the post needs to be kept secure, and part of this is proving your identity beyond a doubt before you are allowed to work there - you wouldn't want theives, fraudsters or terrorists to have access to your mail because the security wasn't tight enough & they were sneaky enough to forge a few details on a photocopy.

There is not an interview as such for the Christmas positions, as they are of short duration. I believe it is considered that if you are organised enough to bring all the required documents & patient enough to successfully complete the process (and pass security checks) then you are likely to be suitable for the work. I would agree that calling it an interview is a little misleading, it might better be called 'document checking & shift selection session', or something.
