World class mail, what next.

Bristol Mail Centre is due to go through its final assessment for the world class mail bronze award on 7th and 8th of November. After two years of preparation and many mock assessments the thing will finally happen with people from Fiat doing the testing. At the moment the managers are busy rushing things in at the last moment and repainting those walkways which flaked up for the third time. As their all working on this the mail centre is failing to clear the work nearly everyday now. Does anyone know what comes after wcm bronze award. Cardiff, Glasgow, Jubilee, leeds, and Gatwick mail centres are often billed as being further ahead with this award thing than Bristol. Heard rumour that it all then cools off for a bit as soon as award passed and all managers and staff on wcm go back on the floor. Is this true or do they just move on to the silver award. It would be good if we just had a rest from the thing for at least six months. My opinion of wcm is that it is unnecessary, where the changes brought in dont produce improvements but are just another way of doing the job. Unfortunately each change is doable but there is always a hint of awkwardness in the new way, but obsessively a change must be shown to have taken place. A bit like a square sided pen, you can still write with it but its a little bit more difficult, at least you changed the pen.

Glasgow are going for the Bronze next week and some of the new stuff that's been done here looks like simply an attempt to impress the Professor and gain the extra points. Points make Prizes. A lot of time and money been spent here with no real benefit to the day to day operation. Some of it I can see disappearing after a while to make way for another great idea. When that happens it will be pointless trying to say "I told you so" because those people involved will say quote the WCM mantra of Continuous Improvement.

Best thing about our place is they are painting all these wall's and walkways and they will have to re paint them all when they start the building work

Looks like WCM is finally coming to the Night shift at our MC...

They've started hanging Blue,Green & Red cards on our 3rd iLSM now - as apparently that's the troublesome one!!!

Oh - and we are dead certs to get our £400 bonus - I'll believe it when it's in my bank account!!!

They tell us that we are NOT allowed to store the York Cards on top of our LSM now, we have to get them from the Yellow Trolleys at the OTHER end of the building...

Can somebody tell me how THAT is supposed to save us time - we've even tried putting the labels in the drawer of the cabinet next to the LSM, but they get thrown away...

You approach your World Class people and tell them you want a yellow trolley where you NEED it, by the machine, not miles away. They can't deny makes sense. One of the attempts they're making is to reduce the amount of time we have to spend walking about to get a label, bag, tray etc

They've turned round and said, since the MORNING and AFTERNOON shift don't use the machine - there's no point.....

Walk slowly to go get the york cards, and stand in a daze for a minute while a manager watches when picking them out, and slowly back.

You'd be surprised how effective that tactic is.

Here at Gatwick world class is just a joke now because it is getting boring, lots of people jump on the bandwagon because they do a lot of overtime and this results in stupid things which do not make it better. We have been told that now we are number 1 at being the worst Mail Centre in the country because of quality, surprise surprise!!!!!!
Some of the managers who have done world class are being promoted and sent out of our office, about time.The mail centre manager has been b*******d because of the lack of quality, now they are panicking about quality checks etc and are s******g themselves. Its fun to watch them squirm at last.

Funny we have just been told that we have a massive problem with quality. It would be nice to see this problem taken on by the world class mail chosen ones as this is a problem which cant be solved. The capability of the machines is fixed, they wont be able to make them work any better than when they were first installed. Eventually they will have to accept the fact that they are crap. Bronze award tomorrow with assessment by fiat, ordinary staff doing all the work will only see the massive entourage at a distance. Local managers and the chosen ones will be near hysterical with visitors coming.
