Job Description

Recent regulatory changes directly affecting the VAT exemption for postal services have created a great opportunity within the specialist and unique area of VAT. The Royal Mail Group VAT position is complex and changing and therefore this role plays a vital part in minimising costs and maximising revenue retained net of VAT.

This challenging and crucial role offers an exciting opportunity to be involved in these changes and the business-wide ongoing transformation. Through the driving forward and effective management of indirect taxes, this role will also provide the successful applicant with the opportunity to become a company-wide respected expert in a specialist field.

Reporting to the Head of VAT to ensure that the group complies with all UK and other European legislation on VAT. Providing high quality advice on VAT issues, which is relevant, practical and consistent with the needs of internal customers and to help minimise the Group’s proper VAT costs.

The salary for this position will be c£60,000 – c£83,000 (dependant on experience) plus an excellent benefits package to include car allowance of £5,500, family healthcare and potential 18% bonus.

Desired Skills & Experience

Significant VAT experience, ideally with previous employment or experience of negotiating with HMRC.
Management of indirect tax and relationships with tax authorities and business partners.
Internal recognised expert source of knowledge on a very wide range of indirect tax issues.
Provide technical support and advice to internal customers on a variety of projects to minimise tax costs and maximise tax opportunities. The focus is primarily on VAT issues but encompasses all other indirect taxes.
Provide support to senior managers in negotiations with business partners to ensure VAT costs for both parties are minimised.
Keep appraised of changes in tax legislation.
Regular meetings at all business divisions to review and advise on new projects and contracts.
Provision of training and guidance to staff at various levels.
Attendance at relevant sessions and actively lobbying on indirect tax matters relevant to Royal Mail with the UK and other tax authorities and the EU where applicable.
Knowledge of regulatory regime and support of colleagues in design of products and/or negotiations with Regulator.
Review and sign off of Group VAT return where required.
An accountancy qualification would be taken into consideration.

RM keep telling us that theres no money left so why can they quite happily pay up to 83,000 on a new role? (not to mention the 14k bonus) so why don't they absorb like they do to our "roles" at the bottom?

I want the job so i deleted him.
If not a joke,are some people really that fick.
I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

Angard is for the guys at the bottom eg: unskilled low paid workers looking for a (i think not "career") "job" in RM on a temporary or short term contract

management vacancies however,are on completely different terms
