the cwu was at local level

no consultation when the ir rep had his resource meeting on friday

How can "The Way Forward Agreement", (in effect for eleven years), be considered no prior involvement or sufficient notice!
IMHO it is if they have not applied it for 11 years and then arbitrarily invoke it.

Hardly, the middle men get shafted every year and never get first pick, how is that fair?

The men in the middle usually get a week or two of thier first choice every year so they hardly lose out do they? :arrrghhh

The others well one year they get pretty much all thier first choices the next year hardly any or none!

But there is no completely fair system is there? whatever rota/formula that someone comes up with, unless the whole office can take time off when they like there will always be someone losing out?

Still seems to me this is about as fair a system that you can get but please do inform me of your master plan that's fair to all as I am intrigued! :hmmmm

In our office we have 10 holiday groups with an average of 9 members of staff in each. If 1st pick year 1, you be last pick year 2 etc.

The first two are made up of mgv drivers, group three is filled up with PHG's and the some of the small van drivers, groups 4,5,6, are majority of full time walking staff, groups 8,9,10 are majority of part time walking staff, and group 7 is made of a mixture of full timers and part timers. Any annual leave week swaps between groups needs managers say so, so he can ensure enough drivers/phgs that week, you are free to swap weeks inside your group.

I've been in ten years and its always been done like this in my office. Only time my group changed was about 4 years after the last resign in the office where alot of staff moved. I would think they would be another movement of groups when the park & loop eventually comes in our office to ensure enough drivers each week.

Last pick for me this year, as I had the joys of being first pick last year.

Speaking of 'grey areas,' what about members whose partner works in a school? They can't take A/L during term time.

Isn't the way forward the old agreement? Because in the new one it doesn't say about it.

The BT2010 agreement doesn't address annual leave or seniority.
The last agreement to comprehensively deal with annual leave and seniority was the Way Forward therefore it still stands on the grounds that it hasn't been superseded.

its not just about taking holidays
those with kids could be paying out for childcare
so they dont get to see the kids and get to pay for the privilege :d'oh!

The point is childcare is much more expensive during the summer holidays because obviously there is no school.
A junior member with children is doubly disadvantaged by the use of seniority to allocate annual leave by firstly missing the chance to spend a decent amount of time with them and secondly having to pay extra childcare costs.

after a meeting with the dsm today

no further action on this

staff will be briefed in the morning by a manager stating that they were mis-informed and appologise for any inconvience, seems they are trying the old devide and conquer routine:

We do a block rotation for the Summer time [three Weeks] and the Winter[one Week],i think it is divided into six blocks.A-F,for instace;if you are block A this year which is the start of the Summer then next year you will move too block F,the tail end of Summer,thereafter the following year you move too block B etc.....
Alsoallowed to swap your blocks with someone else,if we do swap,we hand in the swap sheet to our line manager whichever blocks we've changed.
What pisses me off,is by say Feb,its always the same folk within the office make out that the've booked a holiday abroad on about August-September time.Only drawback about it though

If the outdated system remains in place I sincerely hope that a single junior employee takes legal action against your employer for a clear case of agreement breach and discrimination!

I work in a office of 150 plus and been a Postie for 12yrs and every year I have always got the summer weeks I want and that is on the seniority system.
