Blast for Royal Mail in missing voucher crime

A UTTOXETER resident has hit out at the postal service afer her vouchers were spent by a mystery person, just weeks after it was announced a worker had been suspended.

Postal strikeLynn Sellwood was posted £43 worth of Tesco Clubcard vouchers back in May, but they never arrived.

However, they were spent in the Uttoxeter store and the person who spent them used their own Clubcard to collect the points.

After being told by Tesco to ring the post office to investigate the problem Ms Sellwood was then told by the complaints line they could not investigate as they did not have the details of who spent the vouchers.

The supermarket giant could not tell her the name due to the Data Protection Act which meant all the post office would do was inform the manager.

Ms Sellwood said: “I was not happy with this and contacted the police as it was theft. The police were very apologetic and said it wasn’t a matter for them, it was down to the post office to investigate.

“I didn’t get any further than this — very frustrating.

Tesco did reimburse our vouchers.” In addition to this, she has had a parcel from Amazon go missing despite the company being adamant it had been delivered.

She was told the parcel had been sent again and if the original turned up she had to send it back.

“We also had a card sent to my son for his birthday, which was sent recorded delivery — we did get it eventually but the label attached to the envelope had been torn off,” Ms Sellwood added.

She told of her battle with the post office after The Advertiser exclusively revealed a Royal Mail worker had been suspended after they discovered a ‘large quantity’ of mail due to be delivered in Uttoxeter.

Ms Sellwood said: “I am very angry it has taken the post office until this time to do something, this has clearly been a problem for months.

“Goodness knows what else of ours has gone missing. I have not heard anything from the post office since my original complaint, except a letter to say the manager at the sorting office had been informed.”

Linda Young, of High Street, contacted the Advertiser two weeks ago after important pieces of post dating back to the beginning of September were delivered to her with a note apologising and stating the post had been ‘allegedly withheld from delivery’.

Royal Mail spokesman Mike Norman said “Royal Mail has a zero tolerance approach to any dishonesty and that stance is shared by the overwhelming majority of postmen and women, who are honest and hardworking and who do all they can to protect the mail and deliver it safely.

“We will always seek to prosecute the tiny minority of people who abuse their position of trust.

“We advise any customer who has encountered difficulties with their mail to contact our customer service team on 08457 740740”

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.
