A teenager tried to rob a post office days after being freed on bail for holding up a supermarket with a knife.
Jon Williamson terrified employees at the Iceland store in Dundee's Pitkerro Road when he entered the premises brandishing the weapon on February 8 this year.
The 19-year-old, of the city's Whitfield Avenue, threatened to stab sales assistant Ramsay Kyle before making off with a bottle of Amaretto.
He appeared on petition at Dundee Sheriff Court the next day in connection with the offence, but was granted bail which allowed him to attempt to rob Whitfield Post Office two days later, threatening the postmaster with violence and breaking the security glass with what police believe was a rock.
Fiscal depute Emma Stewart told Dundee Sheriff Court on Monday that the first offender had been asked by employees to leave the supermarket when he became disruptive during the first incident.
She said: "Staff told him if he did not leave the police would be called. He produced a knife from his sleeve and held it above his head.
"He said: 'Don't stop me, I'll take what I want’.”
Williamson then ran down the supermarket ailse, brandishing the knife at Mr Kyle and said: "I'm going to plug you. Don't stop me."
Police later apprehended Williamson in his street. He was still in possession of both the knife and the bottle of alcohol, when he tripped and broke the bottle, cutting his hand.
While being taken to Ninewells Hospital in Dundee, he told officers: "It was the first time in my life I've carried a knife. It was a stupid mistake."
A few days later, Williamson became enraged when he attended Whitfield Post Office and was refused £15 in credit by postmaster Usman Rafi.
Walking backwards towards the door, he urged Mr Rafi to "think about it" before returning with the rock.
He told other employees to get out of his way as he said: "I don't want you to get hurt. I'm going to rob this place."
He then smashed the glass security window around six times, before Mr Rafi contacted police.
Miss Stewart said: "He reached through the broken glass trying to grab money but he was unsuccessful and gave up."
Sheriff Elizabeth Munro called for psychiatric reports on Williamson before he is sentenced for the "bizarre" incidents.
She added: "What makes this so serious is that you got out on February 9 and promptly went out and committed another offence."
The case was adjourned until December 12.
