Simply and perfectly put. But even capital letters won't help in most cases.
If people continue to finish early, they're either told to take extra, the walks end up bigger, or they're expected to repay it on a heavy day, i.e get done 15 mins early on Monday, work over 15 on Thursday.

Sorry if it came across bluntly. Yes, we all make mistakes, for sure. Thats what I meant by being on the ball. In order to avoid these sorts of things, you've got to be sharp and strict. There's always someone there ready to try it on.

BTW in our office (where people here you scream ,but ignore it) if its a heavey day management will let you book your meal relief as overtime, so you can go home on time but with 40 minutes overtime, part of our office were doing this everyday at one time.

You should be taking at least half your break before you go out........its the LAW!

No it isnt. The law only states that a break should be scheduled. There is no law about when this break should be taken, although government guidelines say that the break should be taken during the shift rather than at the beginning or the end. You are entitled to spend your break away from your workstation. Lunch breaks count as rest breaks.

Rest breaks

The Working Time Regulations (1998) govern the hours people can work, including a maximum weekly working time, pattern holidays, and minimum daily and weekly rest periods.

If a worker is required to work for more than six hours at a stretch they will be entitled to a rest break of 20 minutes. This may include a lunch break. For younger workers (under 18) if they are required to work for more than four and half hours at a stretch they will be entitled to a rest break of 30 minutes. There is no statutory right to be paid for these breaks.

All I have to say is use them or lose them. Custom & Practice springs to mind.

Thanks Godric , not all offices are the same. I hoped to get some intelligent replies so have been picking through , I was asking a question on health and safety really as
I know about returning within duty time ,and am quite happy to work until 2pm although we are currently on longs and shorts so its 2:20pm.

my post was not in support of the OP i was stating a fact in our office , if you tell them they have to take 20 minute before they start their delivery they will tell you to F*** off, we don't have a manager present so they do as they please

I have been a Postman for 16 years and have never been told to deliver mail on the way home before, thanks for your responses.

As a postman of 16 years you should know better. It is perhaps why we find ourselves in this position that long servers think it is still the 90s. Embrace reality because those days are gone. Use only the provided equipment, take your breaks and work to your time. If you did use your own cycle why wouldn't you have a cycle helmet?

I was forced by my manager to deliver mail on my way home today,only one bundle of mail 1 mile out of my way on my own bike , I dont have a basket on my bike so had to carry mail in hand , also I dont have a cycle helemt as im on a rural driving delivery. I just wondered if safelty issues have been taken seriously here ?

I was made to drive back in my car to deliver a special delivery! Still that is more important than your letters, he shouldnt have made u do that

Everyone has stressed working to time/Taking breaks etc, but an ongoing tactic and something the management relies on is putting you on the spot, with lots of pressure, and hoping you'll fold. Yes, work to your times, use only RM equipment for the job and chances are you'll be fine. In any instance such as this, take a deep breath and think about it, before committing yourself. I've seen it many times - people just saying yes for piece and quiet, then realising afterwards they're going to go beyond their finish time.
REMEMBER - You're paid to work a full shift, so work it...proper.
