Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
Some offices do take part of their break at the end of their shift, mine is one of them, but that is because we are on a 4 day week and because of the USO timings we had to swallow this to get a 10hr day.
Right or wrong,RM and the CWU is very much aware of it.
As for toilet breaks especially with longer deliveries, have we ever cleared up whether it is added on as part of the outside work,I know we've had plenty of conversations about it on here.
But then could it bring up a problem,we have x amount of time to do our business, but what happens if you're like me,someone who drinks a lot during the day and spends a penny a few times during my outside work.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

TAKEN FROM THE WAY FORWARDkeithposty wrote:halfull wrote:we do 25 then 15 at the end

working time directive/emplyment rights act
Meal Brakes for non-standard, as part-time and extended attendances
Part-time jobs, and full-time jobs with non-standard attendance patterns, will attract meal breaks for each daily attendance as followed, reflecting a generally pro-rata entitlement to the national weekly standard:
Attendance length total breaks probable pattern
Less than 2 hours 30 minutes none (a 10 min grace break should be provided if work permits)
2 hours 30 to 3 hours 10 mins 10
3 hours 1 to 3 hours 30 15 mins 15
3 hours 31 to 4 hours 59 20 mins 20
5 hours to 7 hours 30 mins 30
7 hours 1 to 8 hours 59 40 mins 40 or 20 + 20
9 hours to 10 hours 59 50 mins 30 + 20
11 hours to 12 hours 59 60 mins 40 + 20 or 30 + 30
13 hours or longer 70 mins 40 + 30
Pending completion of the discussions intended to conform with the requirements of the Working Time Regulations, any exceptional attendances of 15 hours or longer will attract an entitlement of 80 minutes.
The actual pattern of breaks within these rules will be agreed locally.
Breaks at the beginning or end of attendance
Where an attendance is provided with more than one break, the second break may be scheduled at the beginning or end, in which case attendance is not required solely for booking on or off. A single break should not be scheduled at the beginning or end of the attendance.

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
you people are missing the point
we have a staffed canteen with cooked breakfast
what about those people who still want a cooked breakfast and do you think they will keep the canteen open if people stop using it. so its the canteen ladys job as well we are talking about
as long as the 40 minutes is accounted for prior to delivery
nobody is forceing you to take your break prior to delivery at the end of the day it is not my choice or royal mail but
BY A LOCAL COLLECTIVE AGREEMENT

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
i do half and half...
20 mins before i go out, or during me walk...
And 20 mins at the end.
I know many of you here think this is awful, but the fact is that with our duties now finishing at 15.05 on paper, if I didn't take a break at the end, I wouldn't be finished in time to pick up my sone from school.
I am sure many other posties are in the same position

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
i understand what you are saying but
the statutory minimum is a 20 minute break under the working time directive
we have a statutory minimum through a national agreement of a 40 minute break
the working time directive states that the break must be in one block, in royal mails case
40 minutes
the break cannot be at the start or end of your duty
the only exception would be by a local agreement which is the only time that statute provision is overturned

Re: 20/20 or 40 minute break/ walk delivery span break
The statutory 20 min minimum must be in one block, it does not apply to any extra break an employer gives, as for customs and practice as long as they give proper notification to change the standard practice they can do thatkeithposty wrote:i understand what you are saying but
