Has soon has you sign for a vehicle your are now legaly responsible for that vehicle. :nervous If it has got any defects its your responsbility to fill in a pmt1 fault report and put the vehicle off the road :speak to the hand , untill the fault has been repaired and signed off by a workshop member of staff! :angel If you have an accident and the vehicle is defective in any way, you will be held responsible :no no and if any injuries are acurred and compensation is to be paid to you it will be substancually reduced because of your negligance. Belive me many times i have inspected your vehicles and been astounded by the condition of the vehicles you are prepard to drive, whether it has a cab full of rubbish , doors falling off and the main culprit driving with bald tyres some that have no tread left but exposed tyre cords :no no :no no :no no . JUST REMEMBER YOU ARE RESPONSIBLE WHEN ISSUED WITH THE KEYS AND LOG BOOK NOT THE PERSON BEFORE YOU, IF YOU ARE NOT SURE IF IT IS ROADWORTHY FILL OUT PMT1 AND GET WORKSHOP TO CHECK IT OUT. :Applause

What does road worthy cover?
A lot of people at my office have a very diferent opinion of what road worthy means.....

is a numberplate light out road worthy? One of the double bulb back lights has one bulb out is that road worthy?

At our office we have the dont checkers, put off the road for wrong colour red

i have heard of minor defects and major defects, where you dont drive with a major eg leak of fluid or air, bald tyre etc or minor where you can finish your shift to drop van off at workshop eg bulb out

any comments on this appreciated

Using the vans is brilliant. Checks add extra time, returning to office adds time (20-25 mins on top of our old 'finish on the street') - so basically RM are paying for the vans and paying extra because it takes longer to do a duty using them. :nana

sidewinder wrote:Bad move.Walk around the van, looking intrested if theres cctv, kick the tyres have a fag if so wish.As a commercial vehicle driver now,we have to put it on our tachos as otherwork as if his aint done before you drive you are up the river without a paddle.Dont say well its a transit ,bipper or some small van as the e.u want ALL comm vehicles to go tacho and you will end up doing this.Around 2014 Ive heard.
This will only make P&L even more of a disaster if this ever does come in. Imagine the cost of fitting tachos to all those extra vans we have bought.

Make time, if something happens because you didn't check then you'll get yourself in serious crap.

we take/get 5 mins a day to check bipper van, if im driving, i want to know im responsible if any accident occurs and my park an loop partner is in the van wi me,and we wash our van a minimum of once a week, at the drive throo car wash, it says in drivers handbook this is a minimum,i tell my dom a clean van portrays a clean image of the company, and if kept clean and hoovered, its worth more in resale terms(im a good bullshitter), its all less time spent on delivery, thats how i see it,

aside from all this, i wonder how much money is spent on fuel(especially at todays prices), road tax, repairs etc for say 55 small vans in the yard, as opposed to the 15 big vans we had before, ......i love the vans, saves me a fortune on fuel.

We are having a disagreement with the DOM about time allowances. What document do the time allowances in the OP come from? They do not seem to be in the drivers manual. Thanks.

We are often waitng for 10 minutes or more just to get the keys for the van, just another Royal Mail umbrella job you might be able to quickly check a van in 9 minutes but its not enough time to do anything about it if it needs anything like oil or water

you will also be held responsible if someone previous has bumped the van, dents, smashed lights big scratches etc and they have not reported it.
Once you have signed it off at end of your shift as ok you will be blamed for any damage not done by yourself. Check the vans FFS.

who is telling that crap

blamed for bumps etc after the omv has been signed back in

just curious as i have not had to deal with that sort of issue in any conduct code matter

you report any damage with immediate effect to the line manager when you do the daily checks

that is why vehicle checks are so important

MAKE TIME FOR IT

is the vehicle check times still valid or is there a new schedual. At my office full timers get 10 mins a day for daily checks and 20 mins for weekly checks. I am on a 30hour contract and drive a transit van and only get 5mins a day for daily check and no weekly check time. The p&L duties get 10 mins a day and two 20 mins (40 mins) a week for weekly checks. :d'oh!
