Capita punishing striking workers

TV Licensing workers at Capita are taking a second day of strike action on Monday in a dispute over pay which is becoming nasty. The company is running a 'punishment charter' against staff who took strike action by refusing them any overtime hours and is starting to discipline staff who put photos of picket lines of Facebook.

Over 500 workers at Capita took legal strike action after the company refused to consider an increased pay offer from the 2.6 per cent rise which is less than half the rate of inflation, standing currently at 5.6 per cent. Capita makes over £1 million profit every day. Workers will take a second day of action on Monday 31st October.

CWU assistant secretary Andy Furey said: "Capita is effectively running a 'punishment charter' by refusing to let people who took strike action do overtime. It's an unbelievable reaction. Unfortunately it's not against the law but it's certainly against the spirit of good workplace relations and is exacerbating the situation.

"Capita seems happy to treat its staff in the most appalling ways - attacking workers who took legal industrial action which is part of their human rights and at the same time bribing them to break the strike by offering a free lunch. It's deplorable.

"The quickest and easiest way to end this dispute is for Capita to take up our offer of talks and to agree an affordable pay rise for workers. The company can afford it. Capita workers can hold their heads high, which is more than can be said for the behaviour of the company."

Capita staff working on the BBC TV licensing contract haven't had a pay rise for almost two years. They rejected the original offer from Capita by 88 per cent in a consultative ballot.

Good luck to the strikers, f***ing greedy companies - times are hard, but not for the fat cats and other associated scum.

TBH it's no worse than the way we get treated when we strike.
