Much-loved Blockley postie retires

THE much-loved Blockley postman Glen Thompson has retired from delivering the mail after 27 years.

Sixty well-wishers turned out to see Glen presented with more than £500 donated by Blockley residents and friends outside the community shop earlier this month.

Margaret Bryan, chairman of the parish council and of the Blockley Co-operative Association, said that Glen would be sorely missed, not just for his deliveries, but for his general kindness and helpfulness.

Mr Thompson, aged 62, started working for Royal Mail in 1984 and has been delivering mail in and around Blockley ever since.

Mr Thompson, who has lived in the same house in Park Road all his life, was amazed with how much support he had from the community.

He said: “I was overwhelmed. It was extraordinary. I have got a small paper round at the moment.

I’m lost without work. I’d like to do something during the day – anything local.”
