Postman kept 16,000 letters piled up at home

A LIVERPOOL postman kept so many letters that police needed a seven tonne truck to remove them all from his flat.

Investigators who arrived at Adam Moore’s flat found the entire floor-space was covered with piles of letters 12cm deep.

They even found stolen post stashed inside the base of his bed and thousands more in his car.

Moore, 22, caused 16,536 letters and packages to be delayed during a two-month period between February 12 and April 21 this year, Liverpool magistrates heard.

He also admitted opening 1,408 items of mail looking for cash and admitted stealing at least £500 while working at the main post office in Liverpool city centre.

Moore, who wore a white shirt and grey trousers in the dock, also admitted criminal damage after the court heard that he destroyed an unknown number of envelopes and parcels.

Police went to his flat on Island Road, Garston, in April and found it full of packages.

Andrea Fitzgerald, prosecuting, said: “The defendant came to our attention because there were complaints about a significant amount of delayed mail.

“A search if his flat found so much mail that it was impossible to walk on the carpet and in some places the mail was puled 10 to 12 centimetres deep.

“It eventually needed a seven and a half tonne truck to collect the mail from his flat and take it back to the depot.â€

what is it with these rogues i knew of a rogue expostie who was caught stealing mail and they were given 12 months suspened sentence and a £400 fine because the light sentence was had young family where is the justice and gving the honest postie a bad name which they don't want in light of the strikes lately

It always surprises me how long it takes to discover that someone has been taking mail nowadays - I mean 16,000 items - how long would it take to accumulate that much stolen mail?

Years ago they were much quicker on the uptake and set up attractive items which were duly taken and it seemed to be only a matter of a couple of weeks.

Recently we had a case of two people who worked in the locker at the same place - but not time who had worked for years but had been stealing SD items. One had used it to set up bedsits I think it was.

Mind you - it isn't always straight forward - a couple of tw*ts here over a period had been sorting mail containing cash to their own delivery and then nicking it - obviously it put the delivery officer whose delivery it was under extreme suspicion.

16,000 items ! sounds a lot but it's only approx 10- 12 days work.

16,000 letters needs a 7 tonne truck? only if they weigh 437 grammes each.

16,000 letters sounds like nearly 2 weeks mail. It sounds ike he had was compulsively lazy rather than a thief.

Thats feck all.. I know a screw who tried to hide HALF A MILLION ITEMS in a London DO and got caught.... Ohh kept his job tho.... Just a slip up... Should of been a million and a half!!!
