I am sure I have read this somwhere but what is the max SD's you can take out in one day for PT's and FT's Bikes and vans I am sure I see 8 somewhere.

Vans as far as I know there is no limit.

Bikes would be the same as walking men as they have to keep them on themselves at all times.

Do not carry more than the maximum number allowed. Do not expose yourself to risks.
If it is a high risk area then refer to the “WalkSafe” threat assessment procedure as it may
be necessary to reduce the number or remove these items completely on certain walks.
The important thing is that a Walk Risk Assessment must be carried out and such assessments
based on local knowledge and previous incidents may override these standards to ensure
the most appropriate safety and security protection levels are maintained at all times.
(A maximum of 8 Special Delivery (SD) individual items per walk may be carried each day,
of which no more than 3 may be higher value SD items, a maximum of 48 SD individual
items per walk each week of which no more than 18 may be higher value SD items. Walks
exceeding this standard number of items per week must to be Risk Assessed to determine
the appropriate method of delivery and whether it needs to be motorised. Ideally collection
and deliveries in town centre areas should be motorised. For the full details on Motorised/
Vehicle SD Delivery/Collection refer to Royal Mail Internal Information Special Delivery
Pipeline Conveyance Guidelines for the collection, delivery and distribution of SD items.

Are you sure ?
Anyone could pay about £1 or £3 postage extra to have compensation up to £1000 or £2500 rather than the usual £500 and this could be any package and not one of those silver plastic envelopes.

TBH its difficult to say what is a high value item or not, however, the list above is the one we use as they are the ones most likely to have cash or convertible goods inside them.

I have read about max of 8 specials on a walk, dispute at work, told I have to take as many they wish to give me. Spoke to the H&S officer who is DM, he knows nothing. In the end I took 9 specials out on my walk. When I got back I asked if they have checked it out, An other manager in a different office had told them that he too has never heard of this. any help please

Many thanks, what I do not know is what is this document standing with Royal Mails Framework, I tried explaining to them about this document but the impression I got was thats its just a CWU document and not a Royal Mail document. Thats right but I was trying to get them to say if Royal Mail accepts this document. I am getting confussed as I have to prove a H&S issued has the backing of Royal Mail. They will not say any thing, so they can not be wrong. Just a simple yes or no from them

It is a CWU only document but if your in the Union go to the H&S rep, or up to the ASR at branch - they should help you.

BTW the 8 only applies pre-delivery methods and for walking/cycling deliveries.

i can imagine without a van, specials are an incredible annoyance... on our bag carrier duties we dont take them, they go with the person who drops the bags out..

Not always, I run an online shop and sometimes use those plastic bags for items worth less than a tenner. (That need SD)

The pouches are available to anyone its not they are used specifically for high value items, but that the business types above will use these pouches and that they are more likely to have high value items in them than the others. Another clue is the cost of pastage as the higher the insurance the higher the cost.
