I am currently off work with stress , due to my manager requesting me to work every Saturday (s.A.) when for the last six years i have worked alternatley with the manager covering the other this is due to child care issues.Now he has decided that i must cover it if i dont he said he would change my hours of attendance from mon-fri to rolling day off. What can i do ? My wife works the opposite to me so we care for our child between us .

what contract of employment are you on

full time 40 hour or fixed term/part time

i have been working a 40 hour week mon to fri with saturday s.a. for the last 6 years in the last couple of years i was struggling to get rid of saturday so my manager said i didnt need to do it because of my childcare requirements now he has changed his mind and expects me to perform it

You are entitled to cancel your S.A. giving one months notice.
If you need to stop it immediately try asking for volunteers to cover the month's notice period.

re s.a. when i told my manager that i wanted to cancel my s.a. he retorted that he would change my attendance pattern to fall in line with postmen of a rolling day off as he does not have any mon to fri duties.

If he doesn't have any Monday to Friday duties, then how does he explain that you're already doing a Monday to Friday duty, with S/A on a Saturday. If you were on a rolling day off, and coming in on on S/A that day, you'd be filling in a docket on different days (the day off for that week), not on Saturday. I suggest you get your Rep involved. If he/she can't do anything, go to your ADR for help.

sorry to keep banging on about this issue but is my manager within his rights to change my hours of attendance if i cancel my s.a. does it make any difference that i do not have a set duty i am on float.

According to my area rep i will be taken off s.a. and work mon-fri but i wont find out for certain until i return to work which is not for another week as i am still off with stress.

six weeks later i am still off with stress nothing has moved a manager finally managed to find a telephone and ring to see how i am that is all
