[quote="Mike Oxlong"]Agree.
So thanks to all above as he's since been to see the woman tonight. She was only to happy to accept the money to cover it (she even offered to go halves but he declined her kind offer and paid in full)
Sorted!

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

P739 has a spot for "Designated Neighibour" if you must do this sort of thing then print up a dated form and get them to sign permisision to leave it with their neighbor (say you have holidays, days off and sickness so it might not be always possible and the jobs a good en, leave a copy in the walk log and keep the real one in your file at home and it is sorted! I dont do this for all but some need it and I will do it for them. This is not bloody hard FFS.

I can honestly say I wouldnt even take disciplinary action especially if this was a first offence. How many customers are leaving notes place item in shed round the back etc and the public can see this.

I have briefed my staff on doorstepping but he put it out of site and actuallly thought he was doing the customer a favour, he won't do it again, will he? Conduct is not appropiate in this case, In my opinion anyway. I have been a manager over 20 years, I am not new to the game and i think one of my managers would have dealt with it the same way as me.

He put it out of 'site'. I guess there's no necessity for a manager to be able to spell but I wonder what impression it gives to customers reading this.redman wrote:I have briefed my staff on doorstepping but he put it out of site and actuallly thought he was doing the customer a favour, he won't do it again, will he? Re: What's the worst that can happen to him?
To be fair Elvis, customers looking at his spelling is the last of our worries, perhaps customers seeing management going against RM policy and the potential for something (possibly very important or perhaps a rare/expensive item from Ebay or the like)to go missing and another complaint filed against us is more of a worry.
And a gutted customer to boot as well.

Re: What's the worst that can happen to him?
It's a difficult one because on the one hand you have the dismiss at all costs attitude of some managers and the sweep it under the carpet attitude of others.
Is it any wonder OPG's get themselves into bother?
There should be the rules..a reasonable and fair application of the rules and nothing else..
A first offence should get you X.
A second offence should get you Y.
It's not like the attendance procedure...there are no mitigating circumstances for doorstepping.

Nice to get a Management Perspective on the site....I'm sure a lot of them read it but are too worried about getting slagged down, by nearly everyone, to make any comments!
I'm aware they also get handed down a lot of unachievable objectives from above as well!

Re: What's the worst that can happen to him?
I think we get lots of management perspectives on this site, the only difference is that he's actually admitting to being a manager. My guess is that if he has been a manager for over 20 years then he probably started as a postie and worked his way up and I quite believe that he would not conduct his employee for an offence such as this for all the common-sense reasons he cites. Unfortunately, unless he was able to keep the whole thing 'in house', it would be out of his hands. I also think it is very dangerous for a manager to condone the disregarding of RM guidelines on delivery procedures. His way then becomes the accepted way of working in that office and when an incident such as this is flagged up at area level or above, the poor postie won't know what's hit him. I'd be surprised if 'Our manager told us to ignore the WTL session', would be accepted as much of a defence.Dorset Plodder wrote:Nice to get a Management Perspective on the site....I'm sure a lot of them read it but are too worried about getting slagged down, by nearly everyone, to make any comments!

Re: What's the worst that can happen to him?
I take your point Elvis. The Doorsteeping Issue was obviously Highlighted, AND STRESSED, at WTL because it's costing RM a fortune in compo! And we know they don't like spending any money! But on a seperate issue how many "Local Agreements" have been brought in because a certain practice has been accepted as "the norm"?
I read many posts on here that specifically say, "This shouldn't be allowed to happen...or........The correct procedure is..." but whenever I question the Rep or management the answer is usually, "This is a local Agreement"
Are these so called "Local Agreements", which I have a sneaky suspicion are just something the Management wants to bring in (Probably aided by a lazy Rep that can't be bothered to fight it) actually laid down somewhere in the Office Paperwork?
I've a feeling the answer is going to be, "Yes they should be" and the reality is going to be No They're Not!

Re: What's the worst that can happen to him?
I understand completely what you're saying mate but I am genuinely worried that RM are actively looking for reasons to get rid of long term, full-time workers on the cheap (and I have seen this in my own office recently). And, regardless of locally accepted practices, if the chance arises to get rid of someone without paying redundancy and replacing them with someone on a part-time contract, they will take it. In fact it's probably another box ticked towards the manager's bonus.Dorset Plodder wrote:I take your point Elvis.
