Re: Why does it come to this when a collegue gives up
Come on you guys,Give us a break here.
Yes its okay to say we should all be treated equally..we get the same rate of pay and have to wear the same uniform :
But i have to defend us ladies. We have a lifetime of monthly periods, pregnancy and then finally menopausal problems. We keep going to work having to put up with all the pain and discomfort that we experience on a personal level and still try to cope while you blokes go into work and complain about nonsense. i.e. Who beat who at football, cricket and golf etc etc. Maybe it would be interesting to swap places for a few months then see how equal we all are.

If the HCT is too heavy for her to push in the snow then put less in it. What goes in a HCT isn't decided by available space - it's decided by overall weight. The HCT can be half empty but once it's a struggle to be pushed around or it's hit the official weight limit then it's too heavy and stuff must be taken out.
The postwoman should stick at the job and when the bad weather comes tell a manager she can't move the bloody thing - not phone up her hubby to help.

Don't forget though, Viking, you women have an extra layer of fat to cope with the cold weather..or in the case of the women in our office, several layersviking wrote:Come on you guys,Give us a break here.Yes its okay to say we should all be treated equally..we get the same rate of pay and have to wear the same uniform :

I have to say, whilst I agree that if women want equality, they should be willing to do the same work etc etc... but it's a physiological fact that we're just not as strong as men. We're not designed to be.
However, asking to work indoors because she can't push her HCT through the snow?! Pffft! I pushed mine through the snow, all 6 inches of it, to finish my part time delivery after 5 hours. It took me 10 minutes to get over the small humpback bridge near the office lol It's not as if it's snow for 6 months of the year though is it?! You deal with it, in line with RM guidelines, and if you're not going to complete you tell the manager. Not your fault there's adverse weather conditions and you're not given correct tools for the job to enable you to complete on time given the conditions you're being asked to work in.

Is there not also a security issue as far as her husband helping her out, unless of course he is a postie as well. Quite often wish my Misses could help me out on a Saturday, but I think that may be strictly against Royal mail regulations.

Oh I don't know. There was a girl in our office that looked like a Russian shotputter. I'm pretty sure she was as strong as most of the blokes in our office, had a better beard too!
Union what Union? Do we have a union?

Your Office must have been a nice place to work if a fellow Postie didn't feel the need for any Union Representation for the last 15 years.
It is a nightmare in my office, unless you are one of the dom's flunkeys as I am finding out favorotism is the polite word to use.
To maybe clarify what i first putup on thread,
In the ladies defense, the previous two winters she had fallen over , we even had a slight accident on our bikes she was following me and I went down a gully and came off and she came off also, which frightened her.
last year after returning from a round she was told that if she did not complete she would be conduct code, so i think she was just bullied into thinking that if she could not do the job which I do sympathise with the comments some of you have made , I just think RM could have been a bit more sypathetic, She was in the union but after what happened in the last vote she came out, not something i would have done, but quite a few did in my office, but since the clampdown on individuals in RM seeking to conduct you on the slightest thing some have rejoined.
Also in reply to why her husband came out to help her she probably felt she had no choice, if the were only interested in taking you down the conduct route, some people just cannot cope, If I knew she felt that way would have tried to help her but she never said much,
yes we would all like the choice to work indoors but some of us cope better, well trying too

Re: Why does it come to this when a collegue gives up
Some very contrevertial but comical points here
...... I'm steering well clear as her indoors is looking over my shoulder
However on a serious note, I'm not about to defend someone who is mega slow, or just slow on purpose, but I do think it's fair to say by the average physical build alone women are the weaker sex. But does that mean they should be excluded from delivery jobs etc
. Any other industry RM would be absolutally slaughtered and branded an unfair sexist employer..... where does it end ? it is also a well known fact as we get older we get slower, so should there be an age limit also ? I'm quite sure RM would love that, but we should all defend the position of a cross section of young, older and women posties in my opinion......

Most of the "People" I've worked with at RM (not all) wouldn't cross the road to extinguish you if you were on fire.....unless of course you paid them Scheduled Attendance!
