Re: reserves
You have a lazy rep Joe,does he get a rotating day off, does he get 1 in 6 Saturdays off,you also have colleagues on rotating day off duties who don't give a f**k.
Reserves wont get 1 in 6 off all the time as it depends on who's off over the 6 weeks, but you should be given a fair crack of it.
Plus your manager is a cock.

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: reserves
I know the feeling joeb55 and it hasn't been properly dealt with in any agreement since the single daily delivery and the 5 day week was introduced. If you have longs and shorts ie; 7.5 hours on a tuesday and 8.5 hours on a thursday and friday the problem gets even more complicated because if they keep giving you the short day off and make you work the longer days then over a 6 month to a year period you will have worked more than your full time contracted hours-this happens in my office and nobody monitors it- so some people are working longer for the same hours if you see what I mean.Though i think the new revisions have reverted back to 5 days of 8 hours and dropped the longs and shorts-well they have in my office.joeb55 wrote:Thanks but I can often be on different duties day 2 day sometimes even sent to other offices my manager also has duties which he only covers with reserves and gives them a set day off every week (mondays or tuesdays)Big Daz wrote:If your ona duty that is due to have Saturday off that week then unless there are operational difficulties then you should have Sat off, if the operational difficulties are long term your rep(s) should be trying to get RML to recitfy.
With the Saturday off/long weekend scenario its a loose end that should be tied up at the revision stage but as there is no mention of it in the agreement or revision process then it gets left to your local rep to argue the case and set up some sort of rota for dealing with it on a fairness basis.Leaving it to pot luck with whoever holiday you are covering then there is no guarantee you will get any Saturdays off.The only way that reserves would get 'more' long weekends in my office is that if a rota for duty holders was set up and once in a blue moon they would have to forfeit their long weekend so a reserve could have certain amount each year-but duty holders/floaters are not gonna be happy with that are they? and I can see their point. There should be an agreed process but as far as I know there isnt.

Re: reserves
it does say in the 2010 agreement that the majority of the workforce can have 1 in 4 sats this to include reserves but as usual rm choose to ignore it,it would be interesting to see if reserves were being discriminated againstDanelectro wrote:I know the feeling joeb55 and it hasn't been properly dealt with in any agreement since the single daily delivery and the 5 day week was introduced.

Re: reserves
Too true I've asked my rep more than once about this and just got a shrug of shoulders. I don't think any reserve in my office ever gets a Saturday off that's the way manager has set it up and any vacant duties just seem to get lapsed so no chance of a duty any time soon I am not just leavin it I've had enough it definately feels like discrimination to mePOSTMAN wrote:You have a lazy rep Joe,does he get a rotating day off, does he get 1 in 6 Saturdays off,you also have colleagues on rotating day off duties who don't give a f**k.

Re: reserves
The way i look at it Joe,and what I usually post about it is...
Get a seniority list of the reserves.
Go down the list so they reserves get the pick of what duties are available for the next week.
They should then in the interest of fairness...
Have the day off of the duty they are covering,if it's 'Bobs' duty and it's a Sat off then they have that.If 'Bob' was on it he would have that day off wouldn't he!
A good rep should ensure this!
Get some kind of aggregate list, that way you can keep an eye on who's had Sat's off,if some, even if they are low on seniority in the list have not had a Sat off for a while then they get priority.
It really is not hard to do,it's just lazyness on the managers and reps part.
And it's not a 'seniority' thing either,i know offices where senior men have taken reserve jobs as they don't want their own duty, they don't mind the weekly change thing,as they get bored on the same duty day in day out.
And once again it's wrong to allocate days off if the duty has a rolling rest day.
I don't buy the operational reasons bollox either.
While there is nothing set in stone in what I and many others post about this, what is going on is wrong.

Lazy rep syndrome,if the duty has been covered like this for more than six months then it should go up for signing as per the way forward agreement.my manager also has duties which he only covers with reserves and gives them a set day off every week (mondays or tuesdays)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

When The Local Rep and Manger both seem unwilling to sort a problem (for whatever reasons) how much say will an Area Rep really have on the Solution?POSTMAN wrote:

For example could a Union member ask the ADR to insist that an Aggregated Over Time Sheet be published or a system be implemented to ensure that Reserves get their 1 in 6 Sats off? Many problems seem to "Hushed Up" and dealt with "In House".

Re: reserves
I agree 100%,because of the changes and despite having been with RM for nearly 10 years I have been took off my duty that I have had for 5years and I am now a floater and like Daneelectro says if you duty holders think you've got it bad wait till this happens to youDanelectro wrote:True but floaters and reserves have been left out on a limb by the union because if your expected to hit high performance standards when doing the same duty each day then a floater has to do that on 5 duties. The reserve is in even a tougher position. This is at its worst when a revision is implemented as the floater/ reserve is learning new duties but not given the same amount of time to get up to speed.Judgee wrote:ALL WORKERS are treated like s**t in the RM, not only reserves you know!
yes a rep can point this out to the DOM etc etc but there should have been something in black and white in the agreement that introduced the SDD and some extra resource time set aside for this in total office hours.
