Might only be for vehicles conveying mail (or even just for the mail itself in the event of loss), not for transport use.

Check a T&S form, when you go to put in mileage, it tells you to ensure you have CAT2(?) business insurance.

definately not wrong on that, reason being busines insurance will never cover you whilst carrying mail in your vehicle unless you specifically take out a policy that does, hence the royalmail bond covers you whilst you are doing business work, you cant be covered twice for the same thing, so business insurance and royal mail bond are actually in conflict with each other if you have both, either party would be perfectly within their rights to insist you claim off the other policy,

DB1100. If you claimed you were being stalked the police would ask you if you knew the suspect and if you'd either been approached or threatened. It's OK telling everyone on here what you'd do, that doesn't actually mean you'd have the coconuts to go through it. B Williams is right, it's a ridiculous idea and one that would get the manager in no trouble whatsoever. Far better to let the plank waste his time. If the postie is aware of him then the manager isn't going to be starring in Spooks anytime soon is he.

As for your suggestion that the police rush round everytime Joe Public has a panic attack, I take it the crime rate is pretty low in your area. Learned their lesson ? From what incident(s) ?

But, and I am not condoning this practice, wouldn't they claim they were fulfilling their "duty of care" responsibilities. Only pointing this out because managers do have to do some "monitoring" in any line of work, how else could they Manage people and tasks otherwise.

If you wanted to question the legality of them then I think fairness and whether they were also watching others, would be one of the few avenues you could look at. The other defence of course RM would use which as you have pointed out is the prevention or investigation of crime.

I have been followed by management, and to be honest I couldn't give a flying fig why they are following me. I do the job correctly, I don't door step, I don't dawdle and I work hard, if they are trying to catch me out doing anything dodgy they'll have a hard time.

As far as I understand it TBT if the manager wanted to monitor you because of their "duty of care" they still have to inform you that the monitoring is taking place and a specific reason why. I believe they even have to tell you when. I do the job properly to the book and I dont mind putting in a full shift. Also been followed/walk tested. I had that stopped though when I asked him to show me the written letter of authorisation he had been given granting him the right to secretly monitor me.

I could never work out if I was just lucky and he was a bit thick though, because as you point out the other argument about criminal activities could be quite strong considering wilful delay etc.., but in that case the dom would still have to present a pretty strong case to the higher ups and get their permission before secret monitoring could take place.

I assumed from the OP that this manager was using his own car to secretly monitor people?
