So what happens to the missorts???
Well we are all supposed to leave the office @ a set time daily, which in the real world there will allways be some difference but in my opinion the locker should not be opened until this time for posties to collect their specials. However the management open the locker say on our later days up to an hour early before the set time when we are supposed to leave. Some of us who come in @ the proper time are still throwing out, hence miss sorts are generated but the fliers are gone. Once they have left the office they are put under no pressure or even asked to come back and collect and deliver these missorts. Some missorts are even generated in the mech and sequence mail due to split postcode issues.

Fishtank has hit the nail on the head.

The question is, how do RMG get round Health & Safety and Union agreements?

The answer is that they allow bullies to become unofficial supervisors in return for perks such as letting the bullies choose what work they do. An unofficial supervisor backed up by a collaborating rep can tell colleagues to ignore safe systems of work, intimidate them into working faster etc. This increases productivity and cuts costs.

What the lowest level of management don't realise is the price they are paying to let an unofficial supervisor run their section. If someone gets injured because safe systems of work have been ignored, the injured person can make a claim against RMG because their section has not been effectively supervised. RMG's insurers will then sue the person who caused the injury for damages. This person will in turn use the full force of the Union to sue the line manager for damages.

On the other hand, line managers might be feeling confident that the Union will refuse to take up these sort of cases. :hmmmm

We should, like all other big firms have a clocking in/out system then we will see how much of RM has been run on goodwill, 10mins here/there will soon add up :cuppa
The problem in my office is that people are finishing 2 or 3 hours early . Then go home and return to the office at end of duty !! Whilst others who live to faraway and return to the office early are made to go out and do more :d'oh!
Another failing of management. Surely it is part of their duty to ensure we work the hours we are paid. If i were manager in our office all those waiting for the locker to open then going out on a 3 & 1/2 hour delivery with 4 & 1/2 even 5 hours left would be under suspicion and the IB would be asked to pay their home a regular visit around the time they suspect they are finishing   ......

I used to work nights, i would see people coming in 40 minutes early and for what, they couldnt get out earlier because of the so called right of way, people are overloaded and cannot do the task in the allocated time.

Another point raised on this thread is the ignoring by management of H&S rules :no no :no no

Last week our breif was regarding bad weather accidents, they told us many stupid things as usual like we have never done the job before  , but one interesting point was not to take out overweight bags or carry more than one bag @ a time :whistle :whistle ......

Then that same manager walked through the office with a face as red as a baboons a..se carrying 3 bags all of which apeared to be overweight, when I challenged him he frowned at me,laughed and walked off. He then complained as I put an additional bag out which he said he would have to drop off himself :mad ..... You just cannot believe these so called managers. they will break any rule, they themselves have just given instruction on, object when you try to comply, all so they don't have pressure booked on their watch and have to justify it on the conference call to the area manager. Of course when anything happens regards a postie getting injured whilst carrying overweight bags for example it will be "well they've had the brief" it's their own fault. Anything happens to them the incident is quickly covered up....... They don't give a toss about our H&S just covering their own ar..s :no no :no no :no no

Well ours last no longer than 5 mins so they can get an extra 25 mins delivery out of you. Dead strange how they allways do them on our busiest days

I makes me laugh when boys come in early, dont take breaks ,run around the delivery and break all h/s rules for what .Well first if u have an accident ,YOU will be resposible if you have been speeding ,not wearing seat belts and the managment WONT defend u .But apart from that you are PUTTING at least £50 into the pocket of your manager that makes sense :Applause but i suppose the manager would like to thank you

I cut off the other day at 14.00pm leaving 2 rows behind.
after I got back to the office having cut off I saw my frame was empty with the docket done.
My house is actually on my walk near the end of my round and when I got home was told the postman had delivered it at 12.45pm.with this postman doing my docket.
1/ First obvious thing is how can a postman do his round and 2 rows of mine and still beat me by over an hour, answer is he comes in early he's a runner/no meal relief/ garden crosser etc I come in at my proper start time and I do my round properly walking at the right speed, writing out dockets , dont cross gardens use a trolley.
I get all this s**t from the managers for being "slow" and "not organised" which means I do the job properly.
Why should we be picked on when the ones who are taking the piss get away with it. Why should the postmen be allowed to do docket whilst getting paid at the same time. I and others who cut off get DIM's standing their watching you throw off your round and hassling you whilst all these runners get away with it. Funny how I was an OK postman for 8 years never cutting off until P/L arrived with 300 extra calls and suddenly I'm slow

Too many of our "Colleagues" seem to like making their fellow Posties look bad! :no no Not sure what their aim is...do they want to look "Good" in the eyes of Management?.....(and I believe this often happens with Newbies, eager to impress)......or do they genuinely dislike their colleagues so much that they WANTto show them up and make them look bad? :hmmmm

It seems a lot of us are in the same boat...we've been good Posties for years and suddenly we're slow! Management choose to hassle us for working "Properly" while they'll ignore runners breaking all the rules! :arrrghhh Nothing Management get up to will surprise me nowadays! But remember it's nothing Personal.....yeah right asshole! :speak to the hand

theres nothing new being said on this thread that has not been said on 1000s of others with no acheiveable solution , its so frustrating . when i joined royal mail all the talk was of team work and in the past 5 years ive witnessed none , sadly its mainly been everyone for them selves, fault lies firstly equally with management and the union then full timers resentment of part timers and part timers having no support from any one ,as a part timer in the time ive worked as a postie ive never felt supported or looked after by the union. as for the management THEY ARE THE WORST IVE EVER WORKED WITH truly out dated , i love the job once i get out the office and away from the politics , , i do the job as i should ,i dont cut any corners i use the tools given and all for the customer. yes there are part timers that cut corners but so are there full timers that do, the job in the 5 years ive been doing it has gotten harder and with nothing to contradict that will continue to, as for the running thats a personal choice in any job in any sector speed and intensity will vary as long as it doesnt affect the service to the customer , there will always be both fast and slow people that do the same job as long as at either end the targets and requirements are reasonable and achievable i used to think that when you finish go back to the office to finish to your time but not with the new hours we do and there isnt enough work for us all to do anyway , stop blaming the part timers the problems are deeper rooted than them

Well im a full timer and i dont resent any part timer ,in fact i feel sorry for part timers .As managment use the now remember your on short term contract and there is plenty of people out there who would love to be in your position so run like blazers and they get all the crap duties ,and i think most full timers will think the same. :shhhhh
