Woof justice for residents after dog attacks

RESIDENTS in Cranford Square have been cut off from mail deliveries after a dog attacked two postmen.

People living in the cul-de-sac were sent a letter on Monday saying their post would be held at the Royal Mail sorting office, in Parkgate, until further notice.

It has been revealed that a postman and woman were both attacked by a dog in Cranford Square last week.

And bosses at Royal Mail agreed that deliveries would be suspended due to the ‘unacceptably high risk’ of further incidents.

Spokesman Marie Gray said: “Royal Mail takes very seriously the safety of its employees, particularly our frontline staff who deliver the mail.

“Unfortunately, dog attacks are a hazard faced by our postmen and women every working day and our first priority as an employer is to ensure the welfare and safety of our people who provide a valuable service to our customers.

“Royal Mail seeks the cooperation of our customers and we encourage the public to take responsibility for keeping their pets under control.

“Royal Mail apologises for any inconvenience caused to customers.”

In the letter to Cranford Square residents, Royal Mail says it will work with the dog owner, the council and police to ensure the dog is restrained.

But a spokesman for Cheshire East Council said its dog wardens had not been informed and Cheshire Police do not have a record of the incidents.

Ms Gray added: “As soon as the dog owner can confirm that the dog will be secured when the postman or woman calls we will be able to resume deliveries to the area. We are working with the owner to resolve this situation as soon as possible.”
