vanman72 wrote:OEE is a measurment tool used by people who never have to get their hands dirty, to assess the performance of people who work their a$$%s off.

Don't be conned by regional or national performance tables, as someone has already admitted, some offices allow 2 people per machine, some offices destack straight onto a-frames, others into perstop boxes & yorks. It's not a level playing field so don't try to compete.

If you're still enthusiastic about achieving a high OEE, bear in mind that over an average batch of say, 6k items, every 2mins wasted represents a 1% drop in your OEE, so try to reduce any stoppages to the minimum. Keep mail tidy as this will help prevent jams, (logging jams DOES NOT alter your OEE one bit, they just want the figures for analysis purposes) try to keep clear down times to a minimum (but do it safely! Don't take risks, especially when lifting large handfuls of mail) Panic & Stress are your worst enemies, try to stay calm and work smoothly. If something goes wrong deal with it & forget it, if you let it stress you out, you're in for a rough shift.

Don't bother cheating, if you try to "fiddle" your figures by tweaking your start/finish times, in order to make it look as though your clear down times are fast, your overall OEE will still be the same, you just make the machine look bad instead of you. This will send your manager running to the computer to find out why and your "fiddling" will be found out.
My advice is, let your manager, not you worry about OEE. As long as you do the job the way you were trained, they haven't got a leg to stand on.
i dont know if you have heard but the sop's has been updated.... it does state that it is recomended that on a clear down to use the 2nd person to clear down from stacker 3 or 4 while the 1st person re starts the machine and loads next batch

vanman72 wrote:Oh yeah, I forgot to mention, if you run batches for Town/City centre walks, you will probably have a large amount of Firms mail, mail which is all going to the same address, sometimes you have more than one firm sharing the same drop, for example a large office block.
This mail is excluded from the sequencing process, due to the "pegasus" system of delivery sequencing. As a result it becomes part of your "postcode sorted" items.
This mail still forms part of your workload, as it still passes through the machine 3 times, yet it is excluded from the OEE formula!
In simple terms, if you are unfortunate to have these kind of batches in your workplan, you are on a hiding to nothing. As the higher your postcode sorted items are, the worse your OEE will be.. and there's not a damn thing you can do about it!

We would like you to run a four minute mile...but...we're gonna tie you shoelaces together
from what you have said ther is somthing you can do about postcode sorted.....
the problem you are talking about is shared postcodes... you can share a postcode over 1, 2, 3, or 10 walks BUT YOU CANT SHARE POSTCODES OVER BATCHES if you do this is the main reason for high postcode sorted.
talk to all you a+ teams of the offices you do work for. and make sure this is not going on .... also make sure the firms only have single postcodes on them and all the businesses that dont have a single postcode are put on the walks.
this will sort your problems and up your oee

Iv'e recently been trained and the SOP which i was told is..
After the 1st batch you clear down to stacker 12,and end of the walk (the end of the belt)
Then load 12 trays and restart the next batch, While you only have to clear down 13 to 20 (making sure you have taken your rejects) and loaded them on last.
You should finish this within a few minuets so enough time to carry on loading and getting your labels in the same as the 1st run.
When you did the training didn't you get any paperwork? iv'e left mine in my locker for when i need it..
hope this helps, If not i'll get the sop from the office when I'm back in.
Never got told anything about assist only to better your scores and fool the system into thinking your superman.

common tactic on larger machines when tieing down, doesn't fool system at all, as when you don't get help your oee goes down accordingly

if you are really paranoid about it, then write which batches you had help tieing down on your oee sheet (should have a section for comments)

It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

mech training is usually 2-3 days (iLSM 3, CSS 3, CFC 2 (should be 3), idk about IMP's), with ongoing workplace coaching (i.e. work with an experienced operator for awhile and you'll learn what you need to quick enough)

IMO the actual course is just a H&S briefing, with TPM training, you learn how to actually operate the thing on the floor (e.g. on my CFC training, one of the operators who we were scheduled to be on the machine we were on were correcting the trainer over various things)
