The "no mailsort" was an enabler in the SDD agreement to allow a "significantly shorter Saturday attendance".
It was supposed to form part of a local agreement along with nightshifts and the cancellation of a Saturday missort run.
Since less and less offices now have a "significantly shorter Saturday attendance" the need to hold back mailsort has also gone.
We now have to argue with managers that the mailsort has to go. :left:
They keep trying to hold it back to advance the IPS,minimise cut offs and cover the failings of the IWT and long and shorts.
It's a funny old world this RM place. :cuppa .

mailsort has never gone out at our office.
it has only been in the last few years ago that any 2nd class undated is now taken out.

nowdays due to saturday sickness (away football matches) also staff getting saturday off
we do not have enough staff on the ips, also with staff throwing overtime off can sometimes
be only 8-10 staff sorting + managers either go home or are doing walks for nothing at other
offices.
so mailsort is left for monday.

Can still leave it at ours, but I never do. Mondays are bad enough with lapsing and catching up on all the firms that are closed on Saturdays. Can't see how it saves you time? Takes as long to put in a box under the frame as it does to throw it in. Then you have to throw it in again on Monday. Illogical captain?

That is actually the answer - IIRC SDD allowed MS3 to be left on Saturdays if they were a significantly shorter attendance. So if your Saturdays attendance is the same in hours (not times) then I would think you have to take it. If however you have longs and shorts then an argument to not take it is certainly possible.

Funny how a Saturday isn't a normal working day for managers. They always rush out the office by 10am on a Saturday. Another case of do as we say not as we do. Still can't work out if they are only doing 4 hours on a Saturday then how do they work out the other 35 hours for the week. No way do they do 8 hours 45 mins a day during the week.

Saturdays are an utter s**t for rurals.

Saturday can now be the heaviest day but the office closes at 15:00, the lorry leaves at 14:00 and we have some sub post offices that close at 13:00, which means you have to cut off from your round and go off to clear the sub and then resume your duty.

So we have to consider cutting off and also missing the lorry ,if there are no specials on board, but the subs cannot be missed as they have to be zapped with the PDA and all hell breaks loose if you miss them .

As I understand ,as per agreement, Royal Mail does not have to work Saturdays ,it just does.

As for the job losses if we to not work Sats , balls, there will always be people who would be happy to act as skeleton staff manning duties that have to stay open ie callers ,specials and other necessaries.

how can it be justified to leave mailsort in, but d2d crap has to go cos its ''live mail'', otherwise its classed as wilfull delay?

Ours stays and we dont even sort it but stack it under the ips bench. We did go through a stage a couple of years back where you had to take it but a few cut offs soon stopped that. As others have said the managers are out the door by 10am so dont want to risk a cut off. :left:

For me i normally go about 15-35 mins over time anywat without the mailsort, and yes i do book it.
Rows of houses all bearing down on me........I can feel their blue hands touching me.......All these things in all positions.........All these things will one day take control..........

lapsing is about filling your duty time
Saturday they made us lapse
I left 2 trays of MS (TBH I usually take where Im going but it was humped)
Monday they made us lapse (it was rammed. told them I didnt have time but got the usual BS. so i sent 2 bags back
Today a quiet Tuesday and i get no lapsing  :Applause :d'oh!
so leaving MS on a Saturday Is nothing to do with lapsing on a Monday
If having more mail on 'Monday causes issues for lapsing then thats the managers issues to work out

Well here we have 'longs and shorts', Saturday being an hour less than Weds, Thurs, Fri. We didn't touch the mailsort 'til Mon, what's making it extra tough is that 'Summer savings' are now all year round. We've also started work later 'cos the mail arrives later... only it doesn't!!
It sits in the wagon outside waiting for someone to open up!!
The consequence of all this is that we now miss the despatch on Saturday which is an hour earlier than we now finish!  So any mail collected sits 'til Monday! :no no :no no And they wonder why we miss targets!! :d'oh! :d'oh!
I kid you not, you could not make it up! :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh :arrrghhh
