I Wrote-During Covid-Which is still relevant now
It's good to get these types of threads, the ridiculous my manager said bollox, so we can reassure ourselves that while the world is falling apart, Royal Mail managers are still being the low-life C***S they have always been.

The daily grind of having to argue your case with an intellectual pigmy of a line manager is physically and emotionally draining.

Re: i have a life outside and dont want to flex.
Had to laugh at 13 - "easier to get leave at short notice", yeah, only when it suits them to allow more lapsing, not the other way round - that's met with a straight NO, end of conversation! This is an official RM WTL document.
Interesting information which I'll be using as ammo very soon, we've been told "being flexible is part of the agreement, so you can flex..." Of course it's not high traffic causing the problem, the issue lies in them having us lapsing everyday, every week - thus they plan to have less staff and when it is a little busier they try and bully people into flexing because they don't have the resources to cover it!!

Re: i have a life outside and dont want to flex.
The fact is that managers up & down the country use the fact that there is no definative definition of what the agreement says on this ( and other ) matters.
It was easier for the CWU HQ to get an agreement that way,
Union reps see one thing, managers see another.
The members are left to deal with the concequences.
If the reps on holiday / day off, then the pressure on members is greater.
If however the wording was CLEAR and DEFINATIVE then members could just point the manager to the letter of the agreement
Leaving things to local agreement will always have the members at a disadvantage

Question for Dingo. If the flex time assuming it is a genuine emergency is called for on a Saturday, can this be deemed to be outside of the agreement as it is clear the time cannot be given back in the same week?

Still same thing, they can ASK you if you are willing to, my answer would be no, I will not flex on a Saturday, sorry chaps these days, no matter what you do you will get no thanks for it, so the best answer is let them reap what they sow, make them do the excess.
As the DOM putting staff on more pressure when the Rep is on holiday, some arrangement for a sub should have been in place or at least an experienced take no bullsh1t senior Postie to do the Reps role.
