back then walk were shorter easier to learn etc.

now it can be a nightmare and your day off is more managed by office needs ....so long weekends are becoming rarer.
Don't want to get into a debate about how hard being a reserve was then against now but...in our office at least. :whistle

1.Sequenced mail has made it easier for reserves.
2.Park&Loop means reserves seldom go out blind anymore.
3.The duties are longer...both for duty holders as well as reserves.
4.Our reserves get 1 in 4 Sat....if they want it.
5.When i was a reserve long weekends were much rarer...they didn't exist..it was a 6 day week. :left:
good times, bad times you know I've had my share

Knowing your day off and when your long weekends are is the same as knowing what duty you are on is it not? :arrrghhh

As for xmas tips, well as half my round is now done by reserves in the afternoon since P & L came in and I cut off every day, I think the reserves will probably get more than me in tips!

This is why I am so amazed when I see reserves moaning about how bad it is for them. Do they think the duty holders just turned up on thier first day and got a duty? :so there
i and a few of my work mates have worked for ten years at rm and are still reserves we ve had plenty of new starters who walk straight in and get put onto a duty therefore getting set days off even now with an office repick the way its being done will mean that longer serving people will end up being a reserve, nearly all reserves in our office either get monday or tuesday off can t remember when any of us got along weekend so if i want to moan il moan

If it makes you feel better go ahead and moan away!

Seems your gripes should be about seniority being ignored in your office though, not that reserves are the only people in RM that are treated like poop! :no no

A stage 1 grievance usually sorts out Saturday as day off. It shouldn't be too hard for a half decent DOM to set up an agregate system to track days off. Everyone is entitled to 1 in 6 saturdays pre BT2010 and 1 in 4 post. Reserve or not.

judith youre beeing honest ,and i totally agree with you ,the duty holders are treated bad enough, but reserves and floaters are just pieces of crap to bosses. we have loads of full time jobs now covered by part timers just in the door ,im 14 yrs in r mail and they just swan in ,get there own duty,(,n xmas tips) and a full time one at that! I did ask about gettin put on one of the vacant full time duties ,told oh we cant do that! People flying out the door ,while floaters end up helping guys who are struggling ,,,,coz we know the jobs. No fckin team work ! Judith youre completely spot on !

Now most of the walks are part time any new starters can basically get their own duty within 6 months, while full time leave reserves who have been in the job 10 years plus can't get a sniff of a duty unless they go part time on less money.

Back in the day my D.O worked on the basis of groups of duties and everyone in the group rotated between the duties in the group. Some groups had a reserve duty in them.

We lost that system in 2002.

im not suggesting that reserves are the only people treated like poop and your right about seniority but it seems rm now ignore any agreements unless it suits them,it also seems its every one for themselves which rm love its called divide and conquer.

They the ignore the agreements because our union is led by complete twats who not only get us bad deals but then fail to enforce what little good they manage to get put in those bad deals!

So yes RM continue to divide and rule whilst we all moan about what eachother is or isn't doing or getting away with!

I've been a reserve for over 2 years now and in that time I've had 4 saturdays off I only ever get mondays or tuesdays off. My manager says I am not entilted to 1 in 6 saturdays off and sometimes he changes my day off at 24hours notice. Can someone please tell me what rights I actually have as a reserve?

If your ona duty that is due to have Saturday off that week then unless there are operational difficulties then you should have Sat off, if the operational difficulties are long term your rep(s) should be trying to get RML to recitfy.
