Sorry but isn't privatisation going to break up RM. Any way the logistics side of the business is not that big anymore, especially if they shut some of the rdc's and mail centres.

It would be a huge undertaking for any compancy to take on RM Logistics and don't forget the advertising benefits of having Royal Mail on so many 40 foot trailers so I doubt we will need to be concerned about this for years. And do RM really want the break up of the Business, I doubt it.

Talking point amongst HGV fleet drivers is that Eddie Stobart will take over the Network side of the business, its only a matter of time. The amount of time they hang onto the units has gone up from 5 to 7 years. Some of the mileage on the tractor units are breathtaking, 1,000.000 kilometers is not uncommon. Faults turning up on them on a daily basis as you would expect on something working day and night 6/7days a week.
The last time I have seen a new truck was a 59 plate. To me the fleet is being run down, waiting for somone to take it on, step in Eddie Stobart.
Probably they will call the first new wagon 'Moya'

Logistics could possibly be put out to tender rather than sold off,someone like Stobart could win the contract and the existing members in Logistics would either transfer over under TUPE or be offered VR.
I wouldn't be surprised to see the distribution function in MCs transfered over to logisitcs. RM were supposed to be transfering distribution functions over, have they gone over yet at any MC?

MCs would be free to use whoever they wanted for deliveries and POs could sell services for all of RMs current rivals. My guess is that logisitics and rdcs would all be taken by one company.
Not sure about other areas but 600 drivers in the Manchester area transferred to Network this week.
