Rule 14 comes to mind...
Rule 14 Discipline

1. General

1. Matters of a disciplinary nature arising from the Rules or Regulations of the Union affecting Union members shall be dealt with in accordance with this Rule.

2. A member shall be liable to disciplinary action in respect of the following:

a) Acting in breach of the Rules of the Union;

b) Behaving in a manner contrary to the interests of the Union;

c) Failing to carry out lawful and reasonable instructions of a Branch, the NEC, Annual or Special Conference;
All very well for someone who has been with RM for a long time and should know better,Put yourself in the shoes of a person who has a family and has been out of work for a while,they get a job with RM and they are desperate to keep it,so have a heart,the union should be protecting these people not threating to not represent them.
Jesus christ. They way to save jobs is to do the job properly, not come in early, not cut corners, stay out and not claim etc etc etc. The job is like it is nowadays due to the management letting staff do all these things, then BANG along comes a revision with job losses cause of the way people have worked over the years.

Who should the union be protecting them from?
The are doing what they do not because they have to but because they want to.
Even if you buy into your excuse it's because they feel they have to.

If you make a decision to go against all of the advice given to you by the union and protect your job your way and to hell with everyone else you should at least have the courage of your convictions and cancel your subs,not use the union as some kind of back up policy in case you've got it badly wrong.

People who have been out of work for a long time and finally get a job will do anything to hang on to it,its ok for you and me who are used to having money coming in,just put yourself in their position,debts to clear nagging wife,the rep should have a word and explain what you have just said,not threaten to not represent them,ok if they continue coming in early thats a differant matter but give people a chance that's what I am saying.You took what I meant wrongly

See no problem at all with that
Run, rabbit run. Dig that hole, forget the sun.
And when at last the work is done. Don't sit down, it's time to dig another one

I don't think POSTMAN was trying to imply that the minute anyone came in early they should be thrown out of the union.
My personal position is that i would not refuse to represent any member.
I would and have asked individuals who continually behave in a manner contrary to the interests of the membership as a whole and our office in particular to withdraw from the union.
I think it's a fair question to ask of someone if they have no wish to abide by the albeit dubious democratic decisions made by the union then why continue as a member?
Union membership should never be seen as just something to bail you out when you find yourself in trouble.
Every member has to do their bit to strengthen the union's position in the workplace..it doesn't take much...just do the job by the book.

Now if you want to talk about how HQ has hung these fixed-term contract members out to dry,leaving them with no protection and at the mercy of managers...i'm right behind you.
These are the members under real pressure...these are the people RM are using to undermine the union in the workplace...why is the use of FTC's suddenly now accepted practice throughout the business?
It used to be the exception...now it's the rule. :cuppa

Yes that is fair what you say,and I agree with you about the FTC's we have 2 lads that I know of who have been with us nearly 2 years now and they are stll on 6 MONTH CONTRACTS,and they are both overdue renewal,imagine the pressure those 2 lads are under to maybe come in a little early and not demand what they are due when they go over,like you say that is a terrible situation to be in.
