Peacehaven Delivery Office to relocate to Newhaven

ROYAL Mail has announced that Peacehaven Delivery Office will relocate to Newhaven - 3.1 miles from its current location in spring 2012.

The delivery office on Hoyle Road, Peacehaven, had faced declining mail volumes and increasingly tough trading conditions. It said it must respond to the huge growth in electronic communications and the resulting decline in overall mail volumes. The lease at the premises, which delivers mail to customers in the BN10 7 to BN10 8 postcode areas, has expired. To provide a more cost effective operation it has chosen not to renew and to relocate to an existing empty unit in the High Street, Newhaven.

Royal Mail’s South East England Lead Collections and Delivery Sector Manager, Andrew Mills said: “We are telling our people about the move now before the detailed planning starts. We want to be able to work with our people on the change and have the opportunity to discuss the implications with individuals. There will be no compulsory redundancies as a result of this change and Royal Mail will also reimburse its people for any extra mileage incurred as a result of the move.”
