A thief who stole a Royal Mail PDA scanner from a local delivery office, claimed he intended to return it to a postman.
Peter Craig, 37, of Anderson Place, admitted the theft from Jedburgh’s High Street on July 27. There was full recovery of the scanner, worth £50
He also admitted stealing a mobile phone, worth £30, which was also recovered, at Beanscene, Towerknowe, on the same date. Defence solicitor Rory Bannerman told Jedburgh Sheriff Court that his client was now drug-free, but had not been at the time of the offences, which was what led to the thefts.
Sentence was deferred until October 28 for reports.
