Early responsibility

Our operations management programme puts you in the thick of the action in one of our mail centres, delivery offices or distribution centres. After a short induction period, you’ll be given your own team to manage, which will mean organising their work, keeping people motivated and sorting out any issues that arise. Challenging environment (Yeah senior posties will challenge you when you get it wrong)

It’s not going to suit someone who wants a nine-to-five job. Working shifts across a 24-hour operation, you may have to start at 5am or work until 10 pm or, sometimes, throughout the night. Nor is it for someone who wants a quiet life in the office. This is a hands-on role in an environment where we collect, process and deliver over 80 million items to 27 million addresses a day.

Moving up

The programme exposes you (ooo er) to a wide range of challenges. Rise to them, and you’ll have the foundation you need for a long-term management career. And if you show real potential, commitment and talent, we can provide you with the support you need to reach some of the most senior roles in our business. Within seven years or less, you could be an Area General Manager, controlling a budget of £120 million and managing more than 1,400 people.

What you’ll need

For this reason, you must have some relevant work experience, as well as a degree (ideally 2:1 or above). You’ll also need lots of resilience and good influencing and negotiation skills.

The rewards

We’ll give you a starting salary of £23,000 plus bonuses. You’ll also enjoy extensive training and development opportunities, and will be offered the support you need to gain professional qualifications.

I suppose there's plenty of graduates who are easily brainwashed. We have one of these at BMC. who has risen to the dizzying heights of Weekend Shift Manager in next to no time - less than a year - mainly because no-one else wants the job.
Totally without experience, and clueless - nice enough chap although he is, but he shouldn't be here.

Problem with Royal Mail is that it has illusions of grandure if the management of this sad company think that having a 2.1 or higher means they employ a person of better standing then they are stupid,my son has 2.2 in law and works for us part time but he would no more be a manager for Royal Mail as he thinks they are the durge of the earth got no respect for them at all. :lfo

As you can probably guess, I know f**k-all about Royal Mail, i've been out of uni for 3 years, pretty much wasting time in a council admin job - to be honest, if it paid more i'd probably stick with it.

I can do a bit of research and spout bollocks for 15 minutes over the phone but i'm guessing if i actually get one of these jobs I'm going to be as hated as all the other graduates you've had to put up with.

We've a graduate in our office, seems a really nice bloke, but from what I've seen he does'nt seem to have much input and just gets given the jobs the LM's don't want to do.
