CWU slave trade

Post by strangler »

Quote from the recent article on the cwu site re apologising for the slave trade:

"So next time you hear some ignorant person say “why are we apologising for something we have nothing to do with…..â€

I think a one off apology was fair and understandable and that has been done.

My question is how far back do you go to stop apologising. Will the citizens of Rome apologise to the rest of Europe and Africa for their slave trade, will the Egyptians apologise to Africa and Europe for the same thing. Will the papacy apologise for the Crusades and the North East Africans for the Moors invasion of Spain and Portugal. Will England apologise for the subjugation of the Scots, Welsh and Irish in Medieval Times.

Nearer in time when will Tony Blair apologise for the invasion of Iraq, will France apologise for invading Spain and the rest of Europe under Napoleon . Will the Catholic Church in Spain apologise for the Inquisition. When will our Royal Family apologise for the judicial murders of 1,000s of Catholics.

This question in no way should be seen as diminishing the true horror of the genocide that was exacted against the African Continent and its people, by the big business and people of the United Kingdom at that time but just as a general question of how much we can apologise for.

Which one? Rugby League players tend not to be handsome lads after a season or two.
